guppies never seem to fail me...I have a fish tank full of them...i also like platies especially the red coral ones...angelfish are also good...african cichlids...I never enjoyed goldfish but now I'm starting to appreciate them a little more considering that they are being used as feeders :[

There are many great fish perfect for an aquarium. My suggestion go to the fish store and look at fish. Your the one that will see the tank each day. If your a beginner, then you might look at Guppies, as they are colorful and easy to take care of each day.
My favorite fish are Montezuma Swordtail and they need room, as the males like to fight in my tanks. My first fish were Dalmatian Mollies, who are very friendly. They enjoy begging and mine had lots of babies.

goldfish are pretty, but they catch disease very easily.
i like neon tetra, swordtail, tiger barb, fantail guppies.
angelfish are very relaxing to watch, although they are pretty sensitive to disease sometimes. they can't be mixed with some other varieties, too.
you have to be careful about mixing the community fish with agressors.

I have been in the aquarium hobby for over 55 years and right now have 9 aquariums set up and running with plans on setting up a few more. It would be hard to name all of the neat aquarium fish that I have had (or have now) that would be good aquarium pets. The biggest thing would be that they be healthy and fairly easy to keep in captivity. I do not like these people that take endangered fish from the wild t maybe die in captivity. Only qualified persons or institutions should have these special fish to be able to breed them.

I had sturgeons many years ago. They were quite small (something like 15cm long). They were really cute ones... just like a miniature sharks, hehe. Cheers and hapyy myloting.
