We were having the same problem, the electric has been becoming more and more expensive just lately. We have managed to cut it down a bit by swapping all the main bulbs that we use the most for energy saving ones. They can be a bit costly to do at first but they are well worth it in the long run.
I have stopped using my tumble dryer and instead put all the washing out on the line instead, doing these two things have made me see a big difference in my bill already.

Even when you're not using your appliances, they're consuming electricity. Unplug your toothbrush charger unless you need it, unplug your toaster when not in use and everything else that you can. You'll see some savings.
Check your windows and doors. I found several places that outside air was leaking into and sealed them with a $3 tube of caulking. My bill dropped $20 the next month. Turn off lights when not in use and get those new light bulbs that save energy, they're very affordable now.
