I think a long time ago McDonald's used to cook their French Fries in lard which is basically animal fat. Now McDonald's uses vegetable oil to cook their fries. It is a combination of canola oil, hydrogenated soybean oil, natural beef flavor [wheat and milk derivatives]* *CONTAINS: WHEAT AND MILK (Natural beef flavor contains hydrolyzed wheat and hydrolyzed milk as starting ingredients).

I would be rather more concerned about the use of hydrogenated soya oils than about the use of animal fats! Quite apart from the vegetarian issue, animal fats contain a high proportion of hydrogenated oil naturally and this is why they are considered bad for us. It is quite possible to use unhydrogenated oil to fry food, so it seems to me unnecessary to add artificially hydrogenated oil!

Fries (or as we call them here, chips) used to be cooked in lard, which is animal fat, because it is capable of reaching the necessary temperature to cook them properly which, in those days, the vegetable oils available were not. Now nearly all french fries/chips are cooked in canola oil or a mixture of oils which are designed to used at the correct temperature. French Fries are essentially a vegetarian product. However, the same oil is used to fry, for example, chicken and fish which may be served in the restaurant, so it could become contaminated with animal products. It would depend on your precise vegetarian persuasion whether you ate at MacDonald's at all or whether you were prepared to accept their vegetarian options.

Hey Everyone! French Fries are veg since they are made from potatoes. I used to love the taste of McDonald's fries then when McDonald's restaurants in Philadelphia, PA changed to trans fat free oil, that changed the taste of them. Truthfully, it didn't really disappoint me since now I try to avoid carbs whenever possible.

I have no idea about the cow's meat but I think that McD's french fries are non veg because McD might use the same oil used to fry other non veg stuff to fry the french fries. This eventually makes it non veg

Probably lard, a salad would be the best bet for a vegan. Burger King has a Veggie burger.
