I feel that people with substantial experience should be accepted as it is for jobs based on their past work experience. It is however noticed that if one goes through a course in management he manages a good placement. This kind of approach does not take into account the attitude of the person and his/her past work experience.May I know what people feel. I would appriciate if some one senior from the HR comments on this discussion.

I magered in management. While a majority of employees do get promoted in to management positions, a lot of people will not even consider a promoting an employee unless they have the dedgree. Don't forget that management is not only in the corporate area, but retail stores, restaurants, and even health clubs all have managers.

I'm not an HR person but I did manage a large department and, while I didn't have a management degree, I did take management courses as well as project management courses. Someone with experience in the industry certainly knows the industry but there are many keys to being a successful manager. My field was technology and I worked my way up to being a manager but having my eye on that position is why I took the courses that I did. I suddenly had to deal with scheduling, personnel problems, purchasing, budgets and accounts payable. My previous experience had not prepared me for those. In addition I had to manage projects, some of them large, so I had to know how to estimate how long the project would take, the cost of equipment and personnel hours and how to track the progress of the project in order to determine whether we were on track timewise and budgetwise. I hope this helps.
