How alike are you in looks to your parents?

How alike are your children in looks to you?I ask because there are some kids that are the doubles of one or the other of their parents and sometimes the resemblances are uncanny.
I also ask because I never thought that my daughter looked like me, people would tell me that she does but often as not would say she is like her Dad. Anyway my Mum said she had some photos to show me when we went over today, and as soon as we got there she got the photo albums out. (bit embarrassing as hubby has not seen some of them)
Anyway she showed me a photo and I gasped, I said "is that my daughter?" but then I saw that the little girl was sitting with my Dad, it was me. But my daughter was the spitting image of me and I could not believe it. When I looked at others of us both at the same age I could have been looking at her.
It shocked me because I did not realise how alike to each other we really were!I wish I could show you. I will put a pic on of me and my girl together on though, I do not think that she resembles me as I am now, but see what you think.
So do your kids look like you or your partner? Do you look like your parents?
Have you ever looked at photos and thought you were looking at someone else because you were so alike at the same ages?

I bet it did take you by surprise to see that photo only to realize it was you as a little girl...by the way..I already see a very close resemblance between your daughter and you even now..uncanny..
I was always told I had my grandfather's and father's features rather than the "female" line of the family

It was very strange, I look forward to seeing her grow and see if she still looks like me at different ages.

My sister and I hae a lot of our mother, in us. Our most common feature between all three of us is our hair. We all used to have long hair at some point in our lives but now my sister and I both have short hair.

I look like my Mum, sometimes though when I look in the mirror I see my Dad, scary.
The worst part of that is that my daughter and I have his hairline and that I do not like at all!

Yeah me and my mother looked the same. Sometimes when people first meet us they think that she is my older sister. When I see pictures of her when she was a teenager I look just like her and it's kind of weird to tell you the truth. But my mother loves it because people think she's my older sister.

I think that it can be a little weird, I just wonder if my daughter will look like me as she gets older. It will be weird looking at her and seeing myself there!

I do think that you and your daughter look alike! Very pretty ladies!
As for me, I am a combination of my mom and dad. I would rather be all my Mom's daughter but, you can't chose what bits and pieces you get from your parents. And, I really can't pick one feature that is more my mom or one that is more my dad as far as my face goes. But, I have both of their thin hair, my dad's tendency to bloat in the belly and his ugly flat feet! LOL! I am also taller than my Mom which means I got my dad's height. Fortunately though, I didn't get all of his height. He is over 6 feet tall. I am between 5'8" and 5'9".
I did get my dad's hands though. He has long thin fingers and so do I.
I got my mom's hair color too. My natural color is light blond as is my mom's color. My dad had jet black hair before it went gray.
My hubby says he doesn't see any resemblance to me and my 2 siblings. I do. I think we look like spitting images of one another.
As far as photos...my entire family says that my niece and I are perfect images of one another, down to our movements and the way we act. I don't see it but, she is only 10 and I haven't gotten to spend a lot of time with her. But, they can see it in pictures too and I can't.

gemini rose your little girl does look exactly like you,
the resemblence is uncanny. I had not thought my son'
looked like me but one time when we were in safeway
he was waiting for me at the checkout counter.the clerk
said your son really looks like you Mrs. Hatley, and I
guess he does although he has his dads dark eyes and
dark hair. his eyes are like mine and the shape of his
face is like mine. but a photo of my moms dad, my dear
grandpa when he was about twenty really surprised my
son. he said I look exactly like him and when I studied
the photo and my son he was right, how odd? I do wish
I had a picture of my fathers dad, I would love to see
how he looked. I took more after my dad than my mom in
my own looks even to my very light brown hair.

See when I look at her now and me I do not see it, but the photo was quite a shock at how like me she is at that age. It is funny how we look like family really especially when we are the double of someone.

I don't have a kid yet so I'll do the comparison between me and my parents. :)
They say that I'm a splitting image of my father and all our relatives from his side claimed me as their own. This was opposed to what they said about my sister who looks like my mom.
When we grew up, it was the complete opposite. I now look like my mother while sister looks like my father. This had been totally fun!

i do not look like my father nor my mother - what my relatives say, especially my maternal grandfather, is that i look like my great grandmother. of course, i've never met her since she'd already long passed when i was born, but that's what my grandfather used to tell me all the time - that i look like his mother.

Sometimes children are born looking more like a grandparent than a parent. I think its to do with the grandparents genes.

I'm a junior version of my dad. I almost matched him when he was young. He thought he met the younger version of himself. I'm 60% into dad looks and 40% to mum looks. Well what astounds me is that me and my wife really look alike. Many friends of us thought that we are look like brother and sister.

My daughter is my twin, she looks just like me when i was young. That is really nice cause she looks like my mother and my younger sister too. We all look like each other and you would wonder from my mother, too my younger sister, and myself who my daughter belongs too. You can see 4 generations of the same face in all of us. That is so cool.

Yes I have heard alot of people say to me that I look just like my mother to the ( T ).
I think that is a nice comment for my mom is a pretty lady and makes herslef look good.
When I had my son in 1998 alot of people thought in the beginning he looked like his father but as he got older and is now 9 sson to be 10 in Aug. he looks just like me. It's funny for he was with me one day in a store oneday and him and I were in the check out line and this lady behind us smiled at my son and asked me if he was my little brother. My son spoke out befor I had a chance to and corrected her saying "that's my mom" I just chuckled and said "yes I am his mother" she said "oh really you don't look older than 20" I smiled and said "I'm 34 most people mistake me for being younger" she just smiled and left it at that. I happen to like that my son looks just like me.

I look just like my mother, even now. People mistake us for sisters all the time. I looked at pictures of her when she was my age and we look almost identical. I love it because my mom and I are best friends anyway. It's neat that we look so similar. I inherited a lot from her.

I think I look alot like my mom but I am more like my dad, I think. My daughter does not look like me at all. She looks the spitting image of her nirth father. I used to look more like one of my sisters but our looks have changed now. My other two sisters look alike also. I don't think any of us actually look like my dad though. I would love to see his childhood pictures though and compare.

I think its harder for us to see the resemblance between our kids and us, but easier for others. Everyone tells me my youngest looks exactly like me, but after comparing baby pictures we all see she looks exactly like my husband. My oldest looks like a mix between her birth father and myself, and so does my third child. My second son looks like my dad, who I look a great deal like.

It is harder for us to see any resemblence, others views differ with who they say our kids look like. Some say they look like me, others my hubby.

Hi gemini,
I would say that the face profile is exactly the same..Like a photo copy..LOL!
I am divided! LOL! I got my dad's eyes and forehead and the rest of my self is from my Mother..Unlike my Sister who is really a photo copy of my Dad! From hair, eyes, nose, cheek, lips, and skin!

According to everyone we meet, they say I'm a spitting image of my mom. It's hard for us to see it because she has dark hair and dark eyes and I have dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. I have the same body type as my mom and the same eye shape but I have my dad's color hair and eyes.

I laugh when I get told that my eldest son is the spitting image of my hubby, my hubby is not his father! I think sometimes people see what they want to see.

Children do look alike,in one way or another. Generally parents or children themselves don't realize the similarities. When some outsider sees it,(s)he can immediately see that "something" is linked. My family people always said my sister was beautiful and I was ugly. However, whoever new person met us,said "you look same". God, that was comforting me,always. :)
