im catholic and the cathlolic church teaches us to believe that adam and eve were our first parents and that when we die, its either we go to heaven, hell, or if you're sinful and lucky, to purgatory. LOL. so i was wondering, how did other people come up with this idea that we will live as another person (or animal, depending on how we lived our "past life") when we die? i mean, is this even true? or just a popular myth that was "marketed" as the truth? i know that other religions strongly teach this belief (hinduism and bhuddism are the ones who teach this to their followers, if im not mistaken) even psychics also use the term "past life" in their readings. so now im confused. which is which? no right or wrong answers. LOL.

Well I believe that maybe way back before the catholic church started people believed of reincarnation. I believe it is very well a true thing, there is yet to be real proof that is known, but my cousins son one time asked my mom when he was like two if she remembered when he pushed her. There are things like this that happens all the time that make me very well believe that reincarnation is truth, and i also believe that it happens to people that arnt ready to go to heaven or to coexist with the energy that makes up the whole universe.
There is no religion higher than truth

and to seagull, yeah it really doesnt make sense why god would allow everyone to live forever when the world's resources has its limits right? i think the disastrous catastrpohes that we have been experiencing these past few years, (tsunamis, hurricanes, earthquakes, etc) are god's ways of reducing the population coz the earth is getting crowded already. not the mention the "signs of the times".

Yeh ,and if it's true ,and we have the reincarnation ,but why does the god make life endless ,why not make our world larger...

Reincarnation is a powerful force in eastern philosophy, but western views seem to be limited to the possibility of coming back as an animal or a sensationalistic interest in past lives.
Stories about the cleaner who was Queen Elizabeth I in a former life or the teacher who was Elvis are treated as a joke story for the tabloids.
England football coach Glenn Hoddle has hit the headlines with his theory on the laws of karma.
Hoddle, who describes himself as a Christian, told The Mirror that the belief of reincarnation made more sense to him than the idea that life's inequalities were simply "the luck of the draw".
But his reported view that people born with disabilities may be paying for sins committed in a previous life may cost him his job.
Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists all embrace elements of reincarnation and karma. There is a strong belief that your actions in the current life are stored and have a spiritual consequence on the next.
It is believed that if you dedicate your life to helping others, for example, you build up good karma and will be rewarded in the next life - and vice versa.
So, I strongly believe in this.

really.. so its safe to assume that you do good to other people as often as you can to achieve a nice "future life" or persona? well, i dont believe in reincarnation but what you said makes sense, and i respect your opinion. i do believe in karma though. what goes around comes around. althoguh you have to be alive in this lifetime to feel the effects of your karma. ive experienced being hit by negative karma many times in my life. so i figured those are the "payments" for the bad things that ive done before.

Hi dierdre, You are correct about Hinduism and Buddhism, but did you know that many early Christians, including some of the early fathers of the church also believed in reincarnation. There are still some Christians today who believe it. We do not however come back as animals, but always as another human being. There are many stories of people who can remember past lives. I have seen and read enough to believe that it is quite possibly true. Read the book, "There is a River", the story of Edgar Cayce. You will probable meet someone in your own lifetime who will have experiences to tell you. Blessings.

Hi again dierdre, I think that reincarnation may be possible, but according to the teachings, souls don't usually reincarnate right away. They say there must be rest and more to learn before coming back. Of course, no one knows any of this for sure. It's all a great mystery. Blessings.

yeah i agree, no one can really say for sure until we die.. so until then.. i'll just be waiting for the right time for me to personally "investigate" this stuff in the afterlife.. hehe. i wonder if i'll possess someone else's body to "expose" the truth to the confused mankind to enlighten them on what really happens when we die. hehe. that would be cool.. one day, one day...

this subject can be quite confusing. I've heard many conflicting statements online, in books and from people. Some people say they recall past lives. Some people said they recalled past lives through past life regression of hypnotism. Some people believe it but don't remember past lives. Others just don't believe in it at all. But, I guess, in the final analysis, the important thing just might be: what have you found to be true, for yourself. What someone else taught you is what he's experienced or has been taught. Maybe the stubject of reincarnation is not so important as what you believe or know to be true.

I think I do believe it in a way. I think if we do not do right on this earth, then we are reincarnated from the dust and dirt and have to relive hell here on earth. I think, when we die, the only place to go is heaven because we already live hell on this earth. If we do not do right by the lord, then we will reincarnate to relive it again.

oh i see.. you got a point.. but i think god reserved a nasty place for those atrocious people who did many grave sins and crimes and those that do not want to recognize him as lord..and that place would be hell.. but then again, they can be reborn as a cockcroach or worm or fly, so it does make sense. hehe.

Absolutely. In fact it's actually been proven, well as far as I know it has. It's been recorded and found in mostly children and usually around five. They, who have no real concept of the past yet, have said that they are so and so from wherever. I've read many discussions written by concerned parents wondering what to do. I think it's really interesting.

really? interesting. can you post the link on where did you find that info? i heard that kids are naturally "psychic" or sensitive or whatever, babies can actually see ghosts but as they grow older, they get diverted coz of their interests, etc so they neglect that certain intuitive side of them so it fades as time goes by. thats what i heard.

i do believe in reincarnation, although my catholic faith dictates it not being possible or something. how else can you explain all the decreasing number of animals and the increasing human population? i'm thinking one has to reach a stage of total fulfillment, joy, nirvana? (i don't know what it's called, cause i haven't been there yet :))for you to be able to reach heaven. i think, we all start out as mere beings, say animals, a worm perhaps, and we are all upgraded to a more, um, intelligent creature, to a dog, fish, chicken, until one finally becomes human. but its not that easy to enter heaven, you have to fulfill your destiny our live out goodness, let karma bite back, all that stuff. and one can finally enter heaven.
btw i dont believe in hell.

oh..interesting opinion you have there. isnt it tiring when you have to live like an insect, then be ugraded to an animal then to a human then be downgraded again or upgraded, depending on your performance with your current life? but i do belive in karma and all that stuff. regarding hell, you might want to take a look at the 3 children in portugal whom mama mary had an apparition, she showed those 3 kids what hell looks like and they were really terrified. this happened around the early 1900s.

I believe in reincartion. Come to think about it, we do have different thoughts and personality, and there were people and will be people who have differnet thoughts and characteristics. Where do all these varieties come from? Therefore, I believe in souls and reincarnation.
