I'm completely torn up, I don't know what to think. The sane part of me says the dude sucks, however, the artsy parts begs to differ. He's made some cool movies (i think) but i have to admit, most of it isn't quite up to par. Now with his new movie out, The Happening, i have yet to see if he's finally broken through the barrier of mediocrity. What can you say about this director? Is he worth my 10 bucks?

The guy is talented as a director thats for sure . I watched The Sixth Sense , The Vilage and The Lady in the Water ( is that the right name ? ) Anyway the first 2 rocked in a big way although they both relied on the same general idea of a final revealing twist so that you only understand the whole movie at the end , it was refreshing and a new style when I first saw Sixth Sense and I was swearing whoever wrote the story was a genius . AS A WRITER well that's another matter , I didn't like Lady in Water , too fairy taleish for my taste . However the man did explain that it was meant to be a story for (his) children so ..... Anyway i would say a Shyamalan movie is NO DOUBT worth your money go for it , it's been a long time since the last really good horror/thriller movie.

I didn't know Signs and Unbreakable were from Shyamalan . I think Signs was stupid and all it did was provide good material for spoof movies like Scary Movie 3 . But Unbreakable was a very good story and you also have the same old idea of plot unraveling at the very end . You know what would make watching a new Shyamaln movie fun ? Try to anticipate from the begining what unexpected turn the story could take in the end .

i agree that signs was a letdown.. it was like all hype and i was really ready for something to happen and then when something did it was stupid.. i am not a mel gipson fan anyways but i did like sixth sense and unbreakable.. the village was ok but a letdown compared that sci-fi had a big todo about it.. i tried watching lady in the water and i just turned the channel because it was soooo boring!!

The reviews are mixed indeed. Sounds like you need to see it just to formulate your own opinion. Personally I thought Unbreakable was a graet movie and Signs was okay when it first came out, other than that I hated The Sixth Sense (guessed the end at the beginning) and The Village was fairly dumb, and Lady In The Water was "okay" for what it was meant to be, most people don;t realize it was a kid's story in origin.

seems to me though that all of his movies as of late have been overhyped. when something is overly hyped it just leads to unrealistic expectations. having said that, the guy has some fresh concepts.

I love The Sixth Sense (someone gave it away before I saw...was NOT happy but still liked it)and Signs but The Village was a MAJOR let down. Before I saw it, I had heard from a few others that it was totally stupid. I figured it out somewhere in the middle of the movie and they were right. It was a major disappointment. For that reason, I think that's why I haven't seen Lady In The Water. It's been on cable a lot recently but I always miss it. The previews just weren't catching my attention like the others so I wasn't excited when it was released. Maybe it's On Demand and I can watch it. I do want to see The Happening. One of the things I always look forward to is the cameo he always makes.

I enjoyed the one about the lady in the pool. I think it was called "lady in the lake" I like odd pictures once in awhile. I do not know who wrote "Fur" it was an odd movie but I liked it. I think even if I do not go and see it in the theatre, I will watch the vidoe sooner or later.

i dunno i wouldnt pay for it.. half his movies are good but not a good that you were expecting.. they seem to make you think that it will be scary and they just turn out to be interesting at the most.. and then i was pissed when sci-fi channel did that whole thing about him making the village seem like it was going to be all great and scary when it wasnt.. i liked the movie but they just set it up like it was going to be scary.. with half his movies sucking im just gonna wait till it hits the movie channels and hope for the best
