Do you have any favourite horror writers or stories? I enjoyed the collections of horror stories by Alfred Hitchcock - he's not the author, but his collections are great. Can you recommend others?

I've always been a Stephen King fan, although his earlier novels were scarier than his more recent ones. I also like Dean Koontz as well, though some are more thriller than horror.

There are so many to choose from, and I have enjoyed all that I have read. Ticktock, Whispers, Darkness Comes are a few, but as I say, there are so many to chhose from.

Right, Stephen King's earlier novels were better (horror-wise). I've not tried Dean Koontz - which book of his would you recommend?

My favorite horror author is John Saul, he gets right into it within the first few pages and I'm hooked. His books aren't thousands of pages long either, he doesn't drag everything out like some really well known authors do. A person that likes blood and guts and gore wouldn't like his books I guess. There is very little of that in his writing.

I've seen his books around, but haven't read any. Thanks, I'll get one and start reading. Any particular titles that you would recommend?

Gosh, I've enjoyed every book I've read of his, with the exception of 'Punish the Sinners'. I don't know if it was me at the time, like maybe I wasn't in the mood, or if I just didn't care for the storyline. The ones that really stand out are; Black Creek Crossing, Guardian, Black Lightning...Oh heck, get two or three of them and give them a try. You may like them and you may not. If you have a library near by they should carry some of his books. If you do get one or two and read them, let me know what you think. He's the only horror author I have ever read and liked, I haven't read many, my taste doesn't usually run that way. I'm changing as I get older I guess.

I'm a fan of authors like Clive Barker (his Books of Blood series is my favourite), SOME Stephen King and John Saul etc and of course I'm a huge fan of the classic authors like H.P Lovecraft, E.A Poes short stories and stories like Turn of the Screw by Henry James etc etc...there are tons of great one out there..

I've read some of the stories by the classic authors; maybe I'm not familiar with some of the old English terms, so I gave up.

Yes, that would be John Saul.. Christopher Pike is another. V.C. Andrews is another great choice.

I must admit that I too am a big Stephen King fan. I read many of his earlier works. But it has been awhile. I have recently enjoyed work from Frank Peretti. Great book!! His books are spiritually-themed fiction thrillers. If you haven't start with this Present Darkness.
