Can google page's home page be customised ?

I am planning to have my site using google page.
But I don't like the templates provided.
Although I have struck a solution for other pages i have planned but still not sure how to customize the home page .
Can anybody help..??

Jut verify, whether you can FTP your website files to remote location after creating locally.
