Sneezing after eating

Does anybody else get massive sneezing fits after eating a large meal?
It's something which is happening to me now in middle-age.
I've had a health check and there are no problems, and my doctor is very puzzled as he says he's never seen a case of sneezing after eating.
Does this happen to you?

@CelticSoulSister My daughter goes through the worst sneezing fits every morning it seems like. She doesn't just sneeze one or two times, she'll sneeze like 20 times in a row! But once she gets through her sneezing fit, she'll be fine the rest of the day.

@moffittjc Same here....I'll sneeze about 20 times on the trot then nothing for ages. It doesn't happen every day or at any particular time although as said, after I've eaten a big meal....not always though, just sometimes. This might sound weird, but when I was a child I lived near a church that used to ring a single bell continuously every Sunday morning for about 2 hours. Both my dad and I would break into sneezing fits while the bell was ringing. As soon as I moved away from the area and away from the church bell, the sneezing stopped. The sneezing after I've eaten is something which has occurred in later life, say for about the past 15 or so years.

i am 22 and i don't have such problems right, but i can tell you one thing i am young but i do believe a lot in yoga stuff it gets you rid of all minor problems with ease(people say that it gets rid of the major problems as well).
if you can find some time try that.

Thanks for your reply. I'm quite a lot older than you (mid 50s) and yes I agree that yoga helps out with a lot of problems. Sadly my joints have seized up (arthritis) so I can't get in the positions, but I used to do it many years ago.
Have a good day :-)

Thanks for your reply. I don't have hay fever, but you could be right about the spicy food as I eat rather a lot of it. I haven't managed to pinpoint it to one particular spice or one particular food, as it seems to happen mostly with whatever I eat.
I find that the larger the meal, the more likely I am to sneeze.
I hope your hay fever isn't giving you too much trouble at the moment.
Have a good day :-)

I occasionaly sneeze after a meal or during a meal, but it is not frequent. I have never had several tiny sneezes like some people do, when I sneeze it is loud obnoxious and hearty. I have sneezed more than once only a few times in my life. Maybe you are alergic to something you are eating or there is an herb or something that is bothering your nose.

Hi. CelticSoulSister. I don't at all. The only time that I will sneeze is if my food has a lot of black pepper on it. Or an herb that will make me sneeze a lot. I hope that you can get this cured so that you will not be sneezing as much though.

Well I have never experienced the need to sneeze after eating. Maybe once or twice but definitely not frequently enough for it to be something I have noticed. I do hope you managed to get to the bottom of it as I see this post is now over one year old.

I've been sneezing after eating a large meal for years. Everytime I go out for dinner, have Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner I sneeze. It has nothing to do with what I eat, it's as soon as I feel full I can sneeze up to 10 times, get all stuffed up and have to blow my nose. It's consistant with eating a lot....not what I eat. It never happens at home during regular meals because I'm a small portion eater. JUST when I'm entertaining or eating out. Hope that helps. I have no idea why. Glad to hear I'm not the only one.

i've found other people with the same thing as me! it's a miracle! i'm always sneezing after i eat a large meal - or even a small meal if i'm not that hungry. whenever i get full i sneeze, and it doesn't matter what food it is. sometimes it's a bit annoying but generally it's a laugh. people don't believe me at first but once they've known me a while they soon see the pattern. it happened tonight and i finally decided to look on the internet for an explanation - snatiation eh? wow, can't wait to tell all my friends i'm not just weird. my dad says his dad used to do it so yes it is hereditary! thanks guys!

I know what you are going through. I started in 1980 when I was 33. For the first 20 years it was only after eating a meal in a restaurant, now it has been happening at home. I don't eat spicy foods and it still happens to me. It's bad when people at a restaurant say "God bless you" and you keep sneezing 4-5 maybe 6 times sometimes more. I laugh about it but it does bug me. If you find anything that can stop it, please let me know. Thanks.

Hello,.... Probably you have developed some allergy.the cause may with your foods.you consult some diatician.i am saying this out of my experience.some twenty five years back one of my friend's wife had a complain like this.the professor of medicine had examined her but found nothing wrong with her.but later a retired military doctor advised her to go through changing her normal diet and after two months he detected that it was due to allergy caused by consumption of black gram.she stopped consumption of black gram and was relieved of the problem.thanx.

Thanks for your reply. I'm sort of sifting through the foods, trying to experiment and see if it only happens when I eat one particular type of food....there are some foods I know I'm allergic to, so avoid, but it's possible that I may have developed an allergy to something new. As yet I've not managed to isolate anything, but hopefully in time I will.
Thanks for your reply and have a good day :-)

Hi there, I came to this discussion because this is happening to my husband. We've been together for 2 years, and all of a sudden he has sneezing fits after any meal -- doesn't matter how much he eats, what he eats, where he eats or the time of day. It happens all the time. He turned 35 a few months ago, he's healthy, regular build and exercises 4 times a week.
It's not an allergy, and his doctor cannot find anything wrong after running several tests. In situations where traditional medicine fails to have an answer, I normally consult with an acupuncturist or herbalist, and she has a solution. Unfortunately, we are outside the country right now and can't do this. However, I wonder if it may help you.

Oh that's strange - no, I don't get that -- though I do wonder if you have allergies maybe?
