Wrong Number

The other day I was out and about and my cell rang. I answered it and it was the wrong number. Couple seconds later it rang again and it was the wrong number. Normally I answer my cell by saying, "hello." This person was asking for Charleta or a name similar. It was the same person who called twice. The third time I answered the phone by saying, "this is Carol" thinking the caller would know he again had the wrong number. So he says to me, "hi Carol, is Charlete there." I was so irritated at the time. Today I think it's so funny that I thought by answering my phone identifying myself that he would know he again had the wrong number. It failed! Have you had this problem with persistent people trying to reach someone?

yes many times I have faced similar situation.you know carol,I think the caller in such cases just pretends to be dumb but actually they want to just disturb the person. This is what I feel.Otherwise why would they constantly ring up the same number again and again and in your case, well ,it was ridiculous.

My number used to be close to the number the bus depot had....so one night someone it trying to find out what time a bus leaves....they called and called and wouldn't take my word for it so the last time I talked to them I told them the bus left for their distinations at 1 a.m. They never called again.

That has happen to me and of course they keep trying to get a hold of that person. Finally what we did, was to tell the person who was calling that he was out and that he be back later, would he like for us to take a message. He stopped calling. I find them calls funny. If that happen again, after the the second call, ask to take a message and tell them you have ID CALLER and that he will call them back.

Oh yeah, I have been getting the same type of calls, every saturday asking for some other person. They kept doing this for almost 3 weeks. Whenever the phone rings they will tell my number very correctly, and will ask for that person. This stopped when I shouted that if this is going to continue, I will complain to the police.
One more funny thing that happens at my mom's place is looks like the res number was that of a college and the college have not taken that number from their address and so people keep calling and ask for the college. One day my dad took down the enquiry of the other person fully and said, ok I will pass this to the college authority as this is a res number. Inspite of constant complaints dunno why the number is listed against the name of the college!!!!!

hi carol!
what a persistent guy! i know how annoying that is. we usually experience the same thing at the office. we'd tell the caller that he/she got the wrong number but then, the person would call again insisting that he/she dialed the correct number and he/she would insist to talk to the person he/she is looking for. and us, being public servants, have no choice but to treat them nicely no matter how annoyed we already are. ^__^;; i have also received wrong number calls but the callers weren't as persistent as "your" guy. they'd rather save their money than to insist on their mistake.

Firstly, I wouldn't have given my name. Sometimes people may be fishing for information to sell you something. (Although I believe you are too wise to fall for anything). But! Yes, I have experienced the repeated call before after getting a new cell number. I call the number back and left a message telling them that the person they are looking for is not there and to not call again ever. It worked pretty well for me.

Sadly most of the calls I get are wrong numbers. Usually they get the message after the first attempt, but occassionally, I have had persistent callers.
I even had a teenager once who insisted that I come and pick them up from a party. Even after telling them that they had the wrong number, and hanging up,they called back and said they didn't care I wasn't their mother, and that they wanted me to pick them up any way. Um, no, it was 3am!!!!!1

Sometimes I get calls and its the wrong number, and I wonder why they called me, because I've had this same number for years. One time I kept getting text messages, the first one said "hey sexy, what you doing?", and I thought what the? who's that from? then later I got another one that asked what I was doing. I didn't think nothing of it, then the next day, I got another message, he asked me what I was up to? So I finally wrote back and asked who is this, and he said so and so, I told him who I was and that I think he had the wrong number, he apologized..lol. We also get phone calls for the bank on our house phone, the banks number is 2515, and ours is 1525, it never fails I'll get 4 or 5 calls a day, people looking for the bank. One time a guy called me 6 times in a row, he kept wanting to know about his account, I kept telling him you got the wrong number, he apologized, but he kept calling me, it was funny...lol.

The other day someone called my cell from an unfamiliar number. I had been expecting a phone call. So, rather than call the person back I looked it up on the internet. Turned out to be someone calling from a local agency. Wondering why the heck they would be calling me, I called the number back. I explained to the woman that someone had just called me, and she seemed a little irritated. She said that she was trying to reach someone and then asked me if there was anything that she could help me with. I thought 'whatever' and ended the call. Do you know that this women, in the matter of a couple of minutes, called me right back asking for the person she was looking for. When I told her that we had just had a conversation in which she explained to me that she dialed my number by mistake, she was much more pleasant.

Why yes for some reason two different people at different occasions for the past few months now have been calling my phone asking for the same person. I always tell them they have the wrong number, but they continue to call my phone.
Sometimes they call twice in the same night.
i can't believe it at times.
If i were them i would erase my number off their phones so they would stop calling me.
On top of that my bf is starting to question me. Weather or not i know the person and i just don't want to talk to them when he is around. This makes me angry! see what they have started.

that is really funny. my late hubby used to say those are people with fat fingers. and sometimes he'd get upset if they did it again and ask them if they had fat fingers. HA! i just moved and my new number has 30 at the end. i've gotten several calls asking for pizza hut! i finally looked it up and they have the same # only with 38 at the end! now thats crappy luck.

actually it only happens about 2 times a month, but my son came up with a funny idea. i wouldnt do it tho. he said say this is our new automated system. ask them what pizza they want, address, phone #, etc, and tell them we'll call back with price. he had a hilarious time explaining it, but i dont think it'd be funny. Karma might just get me for that. HA!

We have had that happen. There is this person who keeps calling. I did not want to give my address so she would no it was wrong. I told her to try a different digit and asked what number he was calling. It was ours, but it was for someone else. We eventually told her that maybe she wrote the number wrong. That worked, and she never called us again.

I think the caller was just playing games with you after the first call, carolbee. For as long as I can remember people have played games using the phone. My friends and I used to do it all the time when we were younger. And, yes, I do feel some shame about it now.My patience is not so great now and I probably would have lost my temper by the third call.

Hi carolbee.
The only times I have such persistent callers is at 2:00 a.m.! What annoys me is that they have the nerve to hang up on me when THEY are the ones who've dialed the wrong number! I mean, why on earth are they getting huffy with me? I'm just the innocent phone anwerer.
Have you ever had them say, "Who is this?" like you're the one that's in the wrong place or something. When they ask me, "Who's this", I say, "Who would you like to speak to?"
I guess we can all get annoyed with people who are calling the "wrong number," can't we? It's pretty funny that it didn't even help for you to identify yourself.
May you have no more wrong number calls, carolbee.

Exactly. To think someone would ask who it is when they made the initial call. I've had this happen also. I do identify myself, hoping the caller will realize they have the wrong number. Getting late night calls like you have had can be scarey. Thanks for responding.

I can honestly say that I have not had that happen, but it did make me laugh! One day my house phone rang, I answered it and a man asked me what I wanted. Stumped I said well you phoned me, so what do you want?. He said no, you phoned me and now I am phoning you.
Completely confused at this point I told him that I did not have a clue what he was on about. He told me (as if I was stupid, in THAT tone of voice) that he had received a missed call from my number the previous day, I said I don't think so no ones used the phone. Well this guy then slammed the phone down. Then he phoned back insistent that I had phoned him and he was getting really aggressive with me, so I told him in an extremely unladylike way that he was wrong and I had not and no one else had phoned this guy.
So anyway I kept a note of his phone number and when the phone bill came through, I checked for his number, just to prove I was right. WRONG, there was his number staring at me, on the day and time he had said! It turned out my eldest son had phoned a friend and had dialled the wrong number, (he is really bad for doing this in fact we now know) I was really mortified, no wonder the guy was so cross, he must have thought I was being funny!
Mind you saying that, there was no need to speak to me the way he did.

I have had a couple of wrong numbers that have been a bit persistent!!at one point my number must have been very much like the local indian takeaway number and I was getting calls asking for the Jeera restaurant...and just the other day lol I had a caller who wanted Evans concrete!!...i put it down to them just tapping in a wrong number somewhere along the line ...the time i would really panic is if i had a weird heavy breather on the end of the line !

I can't believe some people cannot get the point, after you tell them several times.
I've had my cell phone number for at least 3 years. I get a lot of repeated wrong number calls around the holidays; I guess a lot of people only call once a year. Then there is one lady who will call every so often looking for a friend of hers. When she does, she will leave messages for 3 days. I think at one point I called her and politely explained that she had the wrong number (I do that occasionally if it sounds like a friendly person, who might be concerned that someone isn't calling them back). But then a few months later, it happens again.
I've had my home phone number much longer than that. Several people, including doctor's offices, friends, and relatives, call for someone that does not live here. What confuses me is that the lady has the same first name as my mother, so I always wonder first if they really are looking for her! I got a call like that just the other day, and my number has been used by someone in my family since at least 1999.
