Is it possible to make a living for selling stuff on Ebay? Like Ebooks, clothes and others? I find it improbable, but I saw some sites on the internet(blogs) that claimed they were living just off money from ebay! Is it true?

Yes it is possible. I am a powerseller. I do very well. When people try to compete with me I drop my price so they can't afford to invest the time to do it because the total sale price is so low. I sell products not ebooks. However it is possible to sell anything. Ebay allowed me to quit my job and start a landscaping company 5 years ago. Now I have 1 employee to help with ebay and 4 with the landscaping company. How much I make on ebay depends on how many items I list. You must have some sense or you can't do it. A good business mind will definitely be an asset. It is hard for someone who lacks ambition or desire to run a business. And I am not saying you are. When I sold most on ebay the 1st year of the landscaping company it took 70-90 hours per week to do everything. It isn't easy. I was tied to ebay. And quite frankly it sucked. LOL If you don't do it you will get bad feedback which will be detrimental to your sales. Your ebay and paypal fees will be over $1,000 too. When I told people they were like "You owe ebay what???" LOL

Now that's the kind of story that could be put on the Ebay main-page ! But how do you sell the products, to make a profit? 5-10$ more?

The items I sell are priced $5 or less. There is not a large $ profit per sale. You don't look at how much money per sale. If you look at it like you make $1 per sale it doesn't make it sound as motivating. You look at it on a weekly basis. If you sell $1,000 in a week and make $1 per sale @ 70% profit, that is $700. Then a monthly basis. This is not my actual earnings or profit percentage. It is easier to sell 10 million and make a penny than it is to sell 1 and make a million. I am familiar with the items I sell. I wanted them so I thought others would want them too. It is time consuming to find them so most people go without. I tried it and it worked.

Hmmm.. very interesting question. I used to buy my computer accessories from ebay, and when I see so many people bidding/buying those things from a particular shop, and the shop is seling things like mad, I would wonder how much they actually earn from it (which I think would be a huge lot). Another interesting stories I heard was about selling Ebook in ebay, and people did actually earn a big sum from that, but what I concerned about this is whether it infringes intellectual property of someone else. Interesting issue though...

You would have be doing a huge volume of goods to make enough to live off. Ebooks that need to be downloaded can no longer be sold on eBay, but if you sell them on a disc, it's okay. The only way I could see it happening is to be using a few drop-shippers. I buy more than I sell on Ebay. Buying things at bargain prices to "flip" or resell at a profit is getting tougher to do, so I use free online programs that work with eBay and help me earn extra money. (check my profile page on myLot for more info on the sites I use to make $$ with Ebay) I think people still make a lot of money on eBay, but while it's not impossible for a new seller to do the same, it's getting tougher all the time. Good Luck!

I did make a bit of money selling on ebay but I don't see how you can make a living at it.. There are too many fees and you have to spend so very much to make so very little profit.. Too many people try to do over you and take your merchandise and do the chargebacks with Paypal, so then you are out of your merchandise, your fees, your shipping and all of the time you spent doing the work to list and ship the merchandise.. I don't do ebay anymore and will never use Paypal ever again.. Some people may make a living from it but I had over 2500 auctions and wasn't any better off for it.. Good luck with whatever you choose to do..

I think it would be extremely hard to make a living just off of ebay. So many people selling things and some at prices which make you wonder how they could possibly be making anything. Unless you have a specialty and really sell in bulk it would be hard. Even then it would probably be a supplement to you selling your items elsewhere as well. I think the days of going to the flea market or garage sale and then bringing home to make a killing off ebay are gone. One has to remember there are things like mortgages, health insurance, food, gas money, all bills that for one to simply sit at home being self-employed by selling on ebay would be tough to cover.

I know you can, you just have to have drive to own a business and a lot of free time and I mean a lot, lol. My fiancés bother has a business where he sells on Ebay and makes about $100,000 a year. He has a house, two cars, a huge warehouse, 72" tv, a couple pool tables and a lot more, so I would say he is doing pretty well. The only downfall is he is a little cocky now, but I guess I can't blame him because I might be a little cocky to if I had my own business. I think he is going to be firing some of his slacking employees and have me and my fiancé work for him. We won't be making that much compared to him, together we might make $25,000 to $35,000 a year depending on how much I work. My fiancé actually has a little business, its not much since we lack space for more inventory but he is making about $800-$1,500 a month which isn't bad. It does take a LOT of time and dedication, I mean there is listing, organizing, packaging & shipping. The listing and taking pictures seems like the most time consuming, but this could differ depending on what you sell. You need to find a product that sells well, preferably one that you have experience with, and then you have to try to sell it for a competitive price. It may take some tweaking to find the price that suits the products best.
