I thought the people of Mexico we're for the most part very warm and kind. Everyone calls you "Mijo" or "Mija" even if they don't know you. I'm hispanic and was born and raised in Texas. However, since my family has been in the United States for a very long time (at least 100 years), I don't really didn't know too much about Mexican traditions or even the food (like you said it is very different than in the U.S). But all in all I loved my experiences in Mexico. Mmm fresh coconuts were great. I love how theres always people in the little downtown park areas they have in every small town. Usually nears the churches. I just thought even though people were poor and didn't have tv's or anything they seemed to be really saboring their lives. The only negative things that happened was I got ripped off a couple of times.

Thanks for the post. Yes the small park areas are a nice part of all the communities here. I think cause the catholics started most of these places the park with the church is tradition. They use the park as a place for the people to relax and do business so they will money to give to the church. One man told me here, one day when I was in Guadalajara, the church and the state work hand in hand to rob the pueblo. These are his words. The petty theft seems to be almost an excepted everyday way of life here. I do like the life though, things have a much more free quality. TVs are now everywhere not that this is a geat thing. I think that Mexico has changed alot in the 8 yrs I have lived here som for the better and some for the worse, It is more and more like the USA everyday with its good and it bad. What places have you visited here? Do you have any plans to return?
sincerely

I can relate to the doing laundry by hand. When I first came here I was 30 years old I had never in my life washed my clothes by hand. The place I live now has a washer so I am ok. Many years and many places I washed my clothes by hand here. When you only have light weight shorts and tshirts is Ok. But if your where its a bit chilly washing those levis by hand is a chore. I have travel and live in the three major cities you mentioned. They are all nice for their own reasons. I like Guadalajara best its a bit cooler and has way more culture. As far as retiring here you will be alright as long as you have plenty of cash! sincerely david

I visited Guadalajara, surrounding "ranchos", and Puerto Vallarta. My husband's aunt lived in one of the ranch towns. It was really sad the poverty that was there. I never realized people in Mexico didn't have washers and dryers. That was interesting having to do laundry by hand! Yes I intend to go back many times. My husband wants us to retire there when we're old, but I don't know about that. It might be too different for me. It's nice to visit though.

Hi I am from the UK so I am totally unbiased here so the one thing I would love about Mexico I think is the food as I love fajitas and Nachos and CHile con carne. I have been to America and founf that the people were very friendly towards the Brits and I was made to feel very welcome but I did not like all the freeways and high rise buildings but then I stayed in LA but I am sure once out of a city it has much beautiful countryside to offer too. Las Angels is nothing but shyscrapers and freeways that you are right about...I am from montana and there is plenty nothing but country side. Funny thing, people here in Mexico dont know what chilli con carne is. If you said you wanted that in a restuarant they give you meat with chillis and not hamburger...this is an american influence and most places dont have fajits or nachos once again american influence. You will find these foods closer to the border. As far as I know everyone likes the Brits!

I have had a home in the U.S. and several in Mexico for over twenty years. I love living here because
1. people
2. weather, except for now when it is so rainy, but I will go back to California in a few weeks
3. great public transportation
4. fresh, hot, cheap tortillas every morning
5. fresh, hot, bread for dinner

Hola fellow Mexico enjoyer,
Thanks for the post!
Yes these are all some of the good reasons to be here.
I live in Mazatlan and very much enjoy the fresh sweet breads delivered to my door at night with a glass of milk. I have lived here for 8 years.
Enjoy you trip back to the states. Eat some black licorice for me cant seem to find it anywhere here.
Happy trails to you.
Sicerely
