Why are one liners more appealing?

This question is based off a discussion one of my friends started about mindless fluff (you know i love ya hun please don't get upset at me!!), and it got me thinking. why do people prefer to post one line questions or respond more to them then to actual discussions?
I wonder if it is because they are worried about post count or think they will earn more by posting single lines and not responding? and they are usually t5he first ones to complain about their MyLot earnings.
Not trying to brag or anything but to givean example of what I am talking about I was posting the other day, my post count itself only went up 2 or 3 points, but I made a little over 1.50. I was enjoying myself and responding to others posts not even thinking of the "post count" or earnings so imagine my surprise when it came up to that.
Why is it that people tend to want to increase their post count thinking it will increase earnings and not want to have actual discussions? Is it that the one liners are easier to answer and you can just post one line answers?

yes i think probably the oneliners are really easy to answer'but mylot does not really pay very well for these one line
discussions and responses. they want meatier responses and
discussions too. so you are losing points when you do one
line discussions and one line responses. mylot wants quality
not quantity.

Thats what I always thought as well. I did also notice a while back when I was still new to mylot that had deleted a lot of one liners, and people complained about losing earnings then. From what I understand if a post is deleted so are any earnings made from that post. Most of my posts tend to be long though lol. Come to think of it my comments to a post usually are as well hhehee.

These people who only answer in one-liners need to realize that a major rule in mylot is to be descriptive as possible.
And it will only take one member to report them before the posts get deleted and they would lose their precious earning and post count for that matter. Unfortunately sometimes, along with those who actually took time to respond sensibly.

Good point, there are people that try to answer the one liners with an actual answer and not just the typical one line. Some people just amaze me sometimes though lol. I feel like saying sometimes they are called discussions for a reason!!! Beacuse they want to you actually discuss something!! But I refrain myself now and try not to get involved in the whining discussions about how people have a high post count and not making money etc.

I have no idea why people would prefer that style of mylotting honey! I don't - I prefer to get right into a good discussion that requires more than writing I agree! lol To me mylot is about having fun and I don't normally chat with my offline friends in one line chats so I don't do a lot of that on here either! Trying to keep me to one line would be almost impossible! lol Just keep having fun Erilyn you are doing great! xxx

This is true and if you go back to the discussion I was refferring to she has responded and seemed to get quite upset. Its funny though that she accused me of getting upset lol. Don't mean to stir up the hornets nest or anything lol. just thought if you hadn't looked at it recently you might want to check out some of her responses. one of them got me cause she said thank you for all of us posting on her discussion cause we made her quite a bit of money. lol.

Same here mummy, I think you can tell that by most of my posts and responses comments etc! And thank you! I have a great time here chatting with my friends and having really good discussions! Even the not so good ones can have their moments ( you know which one I am talking about lol).

I tend to respond to the simple questions during the day as I can answer them while I'm at work and not lose my train of thought. If I get interrupted on a longer response I never seem to remember what I was going to say...and I just don't even submit the post.
I respond to the "tougher" stuff in the evenings from home. I don't pay much attention to the number of posts beside my name as I know that doesn't include the ones I responded to a second time or my own discussions.

That is completely understandable, I don't care what my post rating says, I have posted a LOT more then what that shows! I like to respond to posts in my discussions when I can say something more than I agree. and when it turns into an actual discussion so much the better!!! I also will re respond to posts on discussions, when it is an actual conversation.

I try to stay away from those as well. and yeah I think it does get amusing when a discussion goes off track, but sometimes that makes for more discussion ideas!! not only that but its great to be able to talk like you would any other time. How easy is it to go off on some tangent when you are talking to some one face to face? lol

Since I have no realclue as to how the earnings here work, I don't know what they are thinking. I know that as of this morning the number by my name was 113 and the earnings said $1.36 I know that posting by itself is not the only criteria.
Maybe they just post one line because that's all they can think of.

Maybe who knows. I know I usually only post when its something I either want to know about like this one lol or to vent heheheh. I have been doing a lot of venting lately. But when you really have noone else to talk to cause of schedules ect. where else better to come?

Get a rise out of em huh? why does that not surprise me lol. I try to stay away from that kind of thing, but the mood Iam in lately I may just have to try to start some trouble. I'm just not really good at it hehehe. Oh wait I guess I am if you followed all the drama caused by my one post lol.

From what I understand so far, these 1 liners will not make any money at all. I've been advised that to even be profitable, a post must be at least 4 lines long. I think you right though. If you are going to reply, at least have something to say that's worth anyone else reading. Oh well, some people just want their #'s to go up.

Very good point. and I also read in the TOS when I started here that MyLot perfers for people to have actual discussions then just to post one liners. I think I have done well thus far here on mylot as the fact that I have almost hit payout now for the 3rd time. So i must be doing something right lol.

Hi there Erilyn, I think that sometimes it is easier than having to type out a thought out statement. It is easier. Like you I have found that my best paying days were days that I was relaxed and just enjoying mylot rather than being concerned with how many posts I got to, or a certain goal. Right now I am just trying to play catch up as I was gone a couple of days. I honestly hate to miss anyones post. I am one of those people that if you are my friend I try my best to post to your discussion even if I have not a clue what your talking about LMAO.... I at least come in and tell You my brain is all fluff today!

I generally prefer to go for quality rather than quantity here, and quality discussions generate lots of interest. I don't usually bother with the one liner discussions as they rarely have much content to respond to.

You have a point there. Don't get me wrong the occasional one liners are fine, but for a while there it was getting BAD!!! If you look at any of my postings, most are pretty indepth. I perfer to respond to ones that are more indepth also! I like it when it can turn into an actual discussion and not just you post for the sake of posting you know?

Thats always a good thing. I have been in MyLot myself over a year now, as you cal tell by my post count, its doesn't matter much to me lol. I just never understood it I guess, I have hit payout 3 times now and my post count is still below 300. I guess I just enjoy more talking to people then worry about that stuff lol.

This is a good point, I have seen comments to posts that are so off topic you wonder if the poster even looked at the post to start with before commenting. What gets me about it though these are the same people that tend to be the first to complain about earnings.

I think that occasionally, its okay for the odd one liner if its relevent to the discussion, and can't be expanded on, but generally I feel its better to at least try to expand a discussion.
The problem is that most people initially think that if they quickly write 100 comments all over the place then they will quickly reach payout. Unfortunately, as most of us know, it doesn't work like this and then they get frustrated de-motivated and disappointed and don't then contribute, meaning that we possibly lose a potentially worthwhile member of mylot.
If only they had given it time, relaxed and enjoyed themselves, and putting the money earning on the back burner for a minute, as I find its surprising how the cents add up when you just enjoy yourself.

Oh i know I have had more fun then I have worried about the money I have made. It is nice though that I have hhit payout 2ce now and will hit my 3rd one soon. I love some of the discussions I have had on here and the great people I have met. Now if I could only get some refferrals! heheheh Joking I don't really care if i get them or not, I just enjoy talking to the great people I have met here!!

I did try in the beginning when I first started here at mylot to help some people who were complaining by telling them what I did to earn what I have but alas it all fell on deaf ears. I have stopped trying to help those type of people out because it has become a lesson in futility. I even wrote an article on assoicated content to try to help. So now I just enjoy talking to friends and making new ones. I don't worry about post count, I don't worry about how many posts I make just get interested in the conversations that I have :).

Congrats on the payouts, its encouraging when you hear of such positive thoughts. Its just a shame that these mylotters who always moan about their earnings can't pick up on this positive vibe.

Evidently people are attracted to the one-line (mindless fluff) type of discussions. I see plenty of one-line responses to most of those. I don't, however, see many responses when I post thought-provoking discussions that require some thought or an opinion.

I have that same problem, but I tend to just ignore it lol. It does sometimes get fusterating when you write something you think would be interesting and you get no responses to it. I am one of those type of people that like to talk and I do quite often here! I quit comming here to MyLot for 8 months becasue I got tired of just all the one line posts ex: whats your favorite color? And wasn't getting really any responses to what I thought were good posts. Now that I have come back and have been able to jump back into great discussions I am having a great time! I have only been back a week or so I think but in that time I have been able to connect with old friends again and have made some really great new ones.

Hi Erilyn
I sometimes wonder about that too.
I sometimes have to read over my response beacause it gets too long and I don't want to have my post be ignored because of length.
But I do prefer longer posts because it shows they took time to read before responding.
thanks

Don't be so rude on other opinions, all have different thinking, and everything has a gud aspect and a bad one.wt i want to say here is that..it may be that one want oto go thru many discussion so want to waste lesser time on one discussion and so he/she is compromising with his earning.anyway mylot is not giving much money so its not a matter of earning here.so erilyn try to think everything with more than one view,u might be understanding wht i want to say here
anywway i also do one line posting sometime which i am going to avoid after ur viw beacuse i want to earn money.lol...

I wasn't trying to be rude at all Just trying to understand the theory thats all. I have found that most people who complain about the earnings are the same ones that post one line discussions. I have a low post count yet I have almost hit payout now for the 3rd time. I just wanted to know what the basic theory was behind posts like that. I am very open minded, and when I don't understand something I will ask as I did here. Not only did I ask the question but I also placed my own view on it as well. Wasn't trying to offend anyone in the slightest and did not mean to seem rude at all.

That is a good point. When I first started on mylot I hit payout fairly quickly and was shocked and surprised when people with more posts were complaining that they hadn't. then I looked at what I was doing compared to what they were doing. I tried to help and to give some advice, now I almost think it is funny. I still have to stop myself from time to time from jumping in and saying something to people when they are complaining.

Well, they are more easier to answer. And faster. I've noticed how some people complain about their earnings and they technically haven't earned what they're waiting for. It's up to you to decide how much you want to earn per day. I honestly can't say what some people are expecting when they sign up.

I think they get their expectations from their refferrers. I don't have any referrals, When I signed up I understood (by reading the TOS) that mylot wanted good conversations not one liners. I always find out everything I can before jumping into something! I enjoy the conversations I have here, and consider the payouts just a bonus!!!

we are always fascinated by short yet powerful statements. we think that people saying one liners are more witty and more sophisticated than the other lot. so we have a unknown affinity for these. also people now a days, have very little patience to sit down and narrate something. they will just tell you the summary and consider that it is enough.but mind it, one liners are not that easier if you are to express everything in a single line.

I mean more of the what's you favorite color type one liners. I can understand not having the patience to type everything out, and want to summerize. And generally when you summerize the discussion it still takes up more than one line hehehhe. I guess just my personal preference is to have actual discussions. I get more out of mylot by having the discussions with my friends and meeting great people than anything else. payouts are just a bonus!
