Does Anyone Just Add Themselves To Your Friends List With Out You Knowing?

I have a simple question for anyone that this has happend to. I had a person that wanted me to accept them to be on my friends list. Now normally I wouldn't have a problem with that if I know that I've responded to their discussion and would accept them. I had one that I knew I responded to their discussion and they asked to be accepted and I did accept them. I went into my friends list to turn on the notify so I know when they have started a discussion. I happend to see one that I didn't reconize and the notify was off. I went to see if maybe I had responded to one of there discussion under discussions I've responded to and no there screen name was not in that catagory. I checked under discussions I've started and the responses there and they didn't come up there either. The only thing I can think of is they just added them selves to my friends list without my permission. I deleted them has this happend to any of you and what did you do about it did you keep them on your friends list or delete them also?

The only one that is on my list that I didn't invite or accept is ryepdx, but they were there from the very beginning. I just assumed they are connected with mylot and have left them there :)

Now that you mention the screen name that same one was on my list when I foirst joined to and didn't except them. Ya I guess they do this to make us think we have a real person for a friend in here when it's only a bot like in some of the chat rooms. I deleted her as well for she never seemed to post or respond to discussions and her post count number never moved from where it was at always stayed the same. Thanks for the response and take care.

Is he like one of those bots or a real person on myspace? I used to get this all the time in the yahoo chat rooms and they made them selves out to be so real when in the long run it was a bot. I never expected it to happen here I guess it does lol oh well thanks again.

Hello, Remembering1996. I certainly did not know that people could add themselves to our myLot friends list without us approving or denying, but what do I know? I am very new at myLot. I hate to expose my extreme ignorance of all things related to social websites. But at the risk of doing so, I must ask, what in the world is a "bot?" Interestingly, I have the same person (or bot) that you have all been talking about on my friends' list. Is this a persona that myLot added or what? Thanks for your help. And, I apologize for my lack of knowledge about bots. PearlGrace

Hello. Yes, the person I don't remember adding as a friend is the name that you mention. I guess that means he is a "bot", according to what you say. But, what is a bot? Is it a made up persona that myLot put in to people's friends list? Take care. PearlGrace

You say you had one added to your friends list you didn't accept right? would that one name happen to be ryepdx by any chance? for if it is that is just a bot from what I am told. I deleted that one from my list and now I have another one just like it that I have not excepted am thinking it's a bot and have deleted that one also. I hope you enjoy your time in mylot and welcome. Thanks for the response and take care.

Yes it happens to me some of the time in fact I have four people waiting for my response to their request on my friend's list right now,one ask me when I responded to her post the others just appearred on the list I never responded to any of their discussions or posts.Members that request to be on your friend's list that you never ever responded to generally are trying to build a list to spam you and others.Sometimes i'll approve their request, but lately i'm just ignoring most of them because whats the use of having approved so many request and when you post a discussion no one responds to it.

I found out that it was a bot that was added to my friends list when I signed up. I never approved anyone the split second my account got approved. I hadn't even started or responeded to any discussions for I was busy checking things out. I happend to look up and saw I had one friend already that I never approved of. I just left it there but later come to find out a couple of others had this same person so I thought it was a person ( human ) on their friends lists also apon signing up. I just deleted it and haven't had any more problems since. Thanks for your response and take care. :)

I didn't think that someone could just add themselves to your friends list. I know that if you invite someone, when they accept they will automatically appear on your friends list though.

Hi jer how's it going? yes they can for when I first started I had a friend already on my list that I never accepted. The name that was there was ryepdx check your friends list it should be the first one for I and a couple of others have noticed it. I ended up deleting that one for the post number never moved from where it was at. I got another one and yup the same thing. I looked all over from discussions I've started to discussions I've responded to and that screen name never came up in any of those but was on my friends list. I don't accept friends unless I've responded to a discussion of theirs that I truely liked and want to accept them as a friend. Look at your friends list and see if you have that name ryepdx on there if so and you didn't except them like I didn't and a few others here that responded to this discussion it's a bot. Thanks for the response and take care.

hmmm...I dont think they can add themselves in your friendslist once you did not approve it.You maybe approved it and you forget it ,thats only the reasons why they are in your friendslist.Other than that its out of weird world.

I never approved anyone when I signed up. I was only on the site for like a minute I happend to look up and it said I had one friend I was like ok what ever I ignored it and kept on looking around at the discussions and all. I then after a month I started to realize that something wasn't right and that's when I posted this asking my question. Come to find out a couple of others have had the same issue. You can see them up near the top in one of the responses in this discussion. I ended up deleting that bot so I thought was a human person and haven't had any issues since. Thanks for the response and take care. :)
