When my son acts like this I get down on his level and talk to him. I make him look at me so I know he can hear me and explain what is going on. If he's determined to keep crying I lead him to a different room (not his bedroom because that it his sanctuary, not a place for punishment) and ask him to remain there until he calms down. He's allowed to play or read or watch television - whatever will help him deal with his disappointment. Because he would rather be with the rest of us, we rarely have to do this anymore.

When my daughter was two years old, she always threw a hissy fit over everything. she cried about anything and everything. Nothing made her happy. She constantly wanted attention or was into something. that drove me nuts! I used to put he in a playpen or put a gate up to her room and let her play if I could see her. I would also gate other rooms off if I was in another room. I would give her toys to play with or something. I would stand my ground and not give more cookies either. She would eventually stop the crying about it.

Your child is getting too much attention! All you need to do when he has a tantrum is pay him no attention. I know its hard to do when hes making so much noise and kicking under the table. This is hard work for him, and when he realises he's not getting any attention he will stop his noise. Just say Nothing, and go on with your work around the Kitchen. You will be surprised how soon he stops his noise when he gets no attention!

My daughter is 16 months old. She has recently started to throw fits when she does not get her way. I will try to calm her down for a minute, but if it does not work and she continues then I ignore it. She will usually stop after a few minutes when she realizes the crying and having a fit is getting her nowhere. She is too young to try and reason with.
