If you are talking about the star rating, you will only see your star rating after you have reached the 100th posts. Your rating will depend on how your friends and respondent have rated your posts. Your rating would go up if there are a lot of mylotters who rated you positively.
Quality posts is always the key. But it also helps if you would have a lot of friends who rates actively. I, for one, am an active rater. I rate all responses to my discussions positively. I also rate all discussions I respond to positively. So it means you have a positive rate from me for this discussions.
But if you are talking about the number of posts (that is, the number beside your username), you increase that by starting discussions and responding to the discussions of others. Reaching a certain number of posts gives you a privileges. Like when reaching the 100th post you will have a star rating, reaching 200th post enables you to use the mylot code option, reaching 500th post enables you to cut and paste and add images in responses. No more privileges after that.
Welcome to mylot!

Well, your rating on here is important as in it helps to determine how people are rating you. But you only get a Rating on here, or a star as others on here know it, when you get a ranking of at least (100). How you get this, is when you take the time to post back to others discussions and when the first person chooses to respond back to you.
So hope I have helped to answer some of your questions here.

To check your rating, you point your cursor over the little star by your name. Also the ratings are judged by your contribution in each category of your interests. And that can be read with each post you make (the fine print on top of your post). To increase your rating, you just have to add more to Mylot so more people can mark you as the best response. I hope this helps you.
