is not having cable unusual for todays generation?

sup! Is it unusual to not have even basic cable? because one of my best friends lives in his apartment all alone for years now and his only sources of entertainment is his xbox360 with one game and his t.v. which to me is odd because all he really does is stay in his apartment and watch the same exact channel for days the only time he switches the channel is when he plays his xbox, and he only turns the t.v. off when he has lots of guest over (which i find awkward) other than that hes a cool dude that gives great advice,i would over to his house more often......if he could at least change the freakin' channel!!!! so would you say its unusual not to have cable or not?
