To me, this old saying is definitely wrong. I've worked hard on my dream, my job and even some important entry tests during previous time. But what kind of outcome I've obtained?? In fact, my dream is still a long long way to go and nobody supports me ; My boss never satisfy with my work, always downplay on me ; And recently I failed my English test again...You see, I have suffered a lot, but I gain nothing. Why????? because of bad luck? My friends, I really need your advice.

Well you are proof that the saying is true. You are in pain in your attempt to gain. Even though you think you have not gained anything, perhaps look at things in a different light. I don't know your circumstances so I don't know how other people could help you. But you are gaining tenacity. And persistence means not giving up so you will have another go at your English test. You have courage in that you are actually attempting to get a better education. You know the meaning of hard work so you are not slacking off, you are not lazy. Often people who breeze through life don't appreciate it as much as someone who has had to work hard for it. All those people who have become very successful in their careers will tell you it is by their failures that they become successful. And the No Pain No Gain saying refers to having to work hard to gain something. Anything worth having is worth effort. My advice: Don't give up. If you stick with it you will be so proud of yourself you won't be able to get the smile off your face!

Your answer is so helpful to me. I know I should stick on my dream, and actually I do persist on it. I deeply hope that I can get my own success after I have worked hard on it. But here is a problem, you know, life is short, how can I do if I go the wrong direction? Maybe I will suddenly find my efforts didn't make any sense couple of years later.

You're not the only one to think like that. There will always be regrets in life, but that's no reason not to forge ahead. You have a character trait that on one hand is intense and impatient and one that is full of stress and fear of 'not doing the right thing.' I think in one way it may be causing your dilemma with studies. But that aside.......Sometimes right and wrong needs to be taken out of the equation. Regardless of whether you change your career 5 years or 10 years down the track, by studying what you are now, you will be learning and building structure, having experiences and maturing. You can't put a price on that. In today's world people will have more than one career, or will change their careers. Learning, as with life, is a process of putting one foot in front of the other. You can do it with ease or do it through struggle. It is your worrying mind that's causing this problem for you. Ease up on yourself a little and go with the job at hand. Don't worry about the future - it is probably all illusion.

I am sorry dear friend. Remember onething. You are nothing but what your thinking makes it. So always think positive. In a book THE SECRET, they say that your thoughts become things. So don't think about failure. Think success only and you will surely win. Never, never, never give up. All the best. http://www.way2winonline.com

Maybe you're right, never have the dark thoughts....But even I have some beautiful and successful thinking, it's not resonable either, and I always feel that it is just my dreaming in day time.

Hi,I'm sorry to hear your suffering.I think to some degree the old saying is reasonable,If you want to succeed, first you must work hard. Now you haven't got what you want,I think maybe you should stick to it.Never give up .Maybe your dream will come true very soon/
