Have you ever run over or hit a pet or animal?

A friend of mine recently had a small dog CHASE her tires and in doing so, she ran into it. It was injured, not killed, but it was still scary. I have never hit or run over a pet myself, but I have seen other people do it, and I don't understand why some people just keep on driving! Would you keep driving or would you stop? Would it depend whether it was a wild animal, like a squirrel, or somebody's kitty?

I have hit a few deer in my life. With driving on the highway at night is usually the worst time for hitting them. It is a common occurance here as well. When it is dark and you are on an open road it is quite hard to avoid hitting them. It happens so fast. I do however stop and pull them off the road. And of course survey the damages on the vehicle.
I have hit 2 dogs as well. Driving down a gravel road at night these 2 dogs are well known for running out to bite the tires. However I know that I killed these dogs as well this time I got out and pulled them off the road and surveyed if there was any damage. I was not about to go and tell the owners I killed their dogs as I am sure they know that their dogs do it as well. I am not going to feel sorry about killing them either. It was just a time bomb waiting to go off.
To be totally honest with you you stated that you don't understand why some people just keep on driving. What exactly are you suppose to do? Go to them and say sorry for backing over you kitty. But he was under my tires. How is that your fault. If pet owners can't keep an eye and make sure the animal doesn't dart in front of the car or is hiding under the cars what are you suppose to do?

I have a friend who hit a deer. The deer did a number on his car... so bad it was in the shop a LONG time. He was thankfully unhurt but man, deer create a mess.
As far as the keep on driving thing, the incident *I* saw was so icky. A cat was crossing the road and I slowed down to avoid it. The guy coming the other direction who ran over it gunned his engine in order to run it over. I was so upset I was crying and shaking.

Can you be sure that the person on the other side gunned his engine. Maybe he didn't see the cat. If you didn't see it happen from his side we are not the ones to judge that he did it intentionally.

First time: A friend of mine and I were driving from Colorado to Vegas. We're driving thru Utah (zzzzz) so I am driving and we are talking about this very topic. She said she has hit a few animals and I was feeling a bit superior, "no I never have". I don't think I got the last word out when thumper hit my wheel!

Hello there mommyboo! I had hit a chick on the highway. I saw two duck parents and five of their chicks crossing on the road. And with a speed of 120 kilometer per hour I couldn't stop right away. It just happened so quickly. I had three children in the backseat and a pregnant friend of mine sitting beside me. So, I couldn't stop then 'coz of the highspeed. I had to choose, either the life of that chick or the life of my passengers so I chose my passengers. Of course, I felt guilty afterwards and not being able to eat for one day. It was a horrible experienced.
