Hearing what you don't want to

There are times when I work that I am told secrets that I don't want to know. I am in a very personal position with my clients on a massage table, and the information I receive can be quite a burden. I work on entire families, which I love, but from time to time I feel I'm being used as a psychologist. I never pass on secrets, but often wonder if I wrote a book, using no names, would it betray the trust of my clients. Actually, there is one thing that as a therapist, is passed on. If an advance is made or an attempt to solicit more than a massage happens, we pass it on and try to keep that type of person out of the establishment. Most of the time they are just relaxing, and at least what they are doing is legal, but not always. Sometimes it feels like they need to share a dirty secret about themselves to see if I approve. I never judge and some feel that I approve, when really, I am only for their right to do it. Just because I don't disapprove, doesn't mean I want to participate in certain behavior. This may be one of the hardest things I do.

Don't I wish I could. People would probably think I was in a completely different profession if I used their prices.

I really don't like it when secrets are told to me. I feel uncomfortable, mostly. It's because I don't really want to hear anything that is kept so secretively. But I never spread the secrets around. Secrets are burdens, aren't they? And so often draining too. I can imagine how it must be with your clients. I'm sure at the end of the day you feel worn out and slightly used.

It's true, there are times it's draining, because we are inside people's energy. The goal is to make them feel better without taking on their issues, physical or emotional.
