I've always loved watching lightening and it's a wonder I even made it through my growing up years. We lived in a Cape Cod sytle house and the entire second floor was one big bedroom for my two sisters and me. The windows on either end faced east and west. This was in Maryland and most thunder storms came from the west, heading east. I used to stand at the west facing window to watch the storm approach and then go to the east facing window to watch it continue on it's way, sometimes leaning out of it if it wasn't raining in my direction. One time a tree pretty close to the house was hit and I thought that was it for me! The flash and the boom came almost instantly...it was pretty cool.
I still love to watch lightening and, being in rural Florida where we have a lot of sky, I have seen some fantastic displays both far away and close to home. I don't hang out of windows anymore though. I have to set a good example for the grandkins. Any other lightening freaks out there?

I like watching the fireworks, specially from a distance they look spectacular. Don't enjoy the thunderous voice that comes along with them, but ever since my childhood I am found of watching lightening and solar eclipse.

Yes, we always watch the solar and the lunar eclipses. My youngest grandson doesn't like the "booms" much either but the older one loves them...the louder the better!

Since we can see storms developing from a long distance away I have seen some of the most beautiful cloud formations with amazing colors, especially around sunset.

I like to watch lightning...as long as it is in a distance. I don't like it when lightning is so close that it becomes scary. The lightning I like to watch is when the electricity goes across the sky. It has a very eery effect. Sometimes there will be several bolts of lightning that will go down to the ground at the same time.

Yes, I like watching the sky to sky lightening...I guess that's what it's called, too. We see a lot of that but it seems to come as the storm is moving away.

I agree, I also love to watch lightening. In England we don't get loads of lightening storms but if we do occasionally get them, or if I'm been abroad I love to sit at a window and watch it happen. I think it's because it reminds me how powerful nature can be and I love natural occurances like this. Also I love the colours that can be created across the sky as this happens. I love seeing photos people have captured of spectacular lightening effects I've tried to capture the moment the lightening strikes before but I've never been successful.

I've tried to catch one with my camera, too, but I guess it's not fast enough. I would love to catch a shot of the strikes that go across the sky instead of coming down to the ground. They are really something to see!

Me too! I live in southern Ontario and my city is known for getting thunderstorms! I live in an apartment now and still love to watch a thunderstorm where-ever I am. When I was young my dad used to open up the front of our garage and my family would line up our lawn chairs and watch together. My sister was terrified of them sitting always farther back than the rest of us. I would be excited eyes trained only to the sky, sitting of course closer than my mother liked. I would have loved to have a room with so many windows Spalladino!

I love to watch lightening storms as well. Since I was a little girl I would go out on the porch with my father during thunderstorms and watch the wind blow, the rain poor, and wait for the strikes of lightening. I always loved visiting Florida on vacation because I could always be guaranteed to see some great lightenting storms. It gives a little feeling of fear in the pit of my stomach to watch them, but thats why I love it.

Yes, we have some great shows down here and, because there is so much wide open space, the thunder is much louder than it was up north.

LOL, me too! Unfortunately, we don't have too many coming through in the middle of the night...or maybe that's fortunate since I have to get up for work in the mornings.

I do agree that lightening has its own beauty with those silvery flashes, but to tell you the truth, it is a bit scary. As soon as I see lightening, I put my hands on my ears as I know soon it will be followed by a sound of thunder and you never know how strong will be this sound, it scares me.......

I find lightening very fasinating and I love to watch it, I think the sky its self is very beautiful and when a storm is brewing to watch what the clouds are doing and how the lightening lights the sky in thousands of different colours.

I love watching lightening. It is like watching God's laser light show. I have stood outside to watch the beauty of it. we have no windows that are good enough to give me a great view so I have to go outside sometimes to see it in all its glory. My mom has a room that has like five big windows in it and it is perfect for watching the storms play out or the animals in our field playing. I hope to one day add on a room like hers so that I can watch the animals and the storms.

I wouldnt say im a lightening freak but i do like storms to an extent. I dont like the high winds but the rain doesnt bother me to much unless im driving in it. the lightning doesnt bother me much unless its really close. if its in the distance i love it because its pretty to watch far away. :)

I like to watch the lightening but not when it's really bad. I would feel better watching them if I lived in a house and not a mobile home. If it's not really bad I would watch them outside. So it all depends on how bad it is.

When we lived in Odessa, Texas - out in the west part of nowhere - it was the best place. We could sit on our porch and watch tornadoes touch down and hop across the distant flat plains and the electrical storms lightening..and even when a rain storm was coming in - to sit there and watch that amazing lightening flash across the dark vacant sky - - absolutely amazing and beautiful. Shame that something so beautiful and graceful can be so deadly and distructive.

lightning is the most awesome nature's art. LOL. I would always have myself watch the nature's best performance from the window. and then Mom would shout behind, telling me to stay away from the window (I know she worried about it). but I think lightning is really cool and the speed (also the thrilling adrenaline effect from watching the 'show')
it's a pity that I don't have a recorder to record the best performance of nature's power. lightning is really fantastic and awesome 'instant painting', the best ever a sky has ever had.

I am afraid of lightening. Whenever it occurs I shut the doors and just sit in a corner.

I've always loved watching lightening storm & I still do... I remember staying up late at night on rainy days just to get a gleams of lightening... My sister hated it & to this day, she still does... I remember few years ago, taking my sister to a doctor's office for routine check up, her car was in a shop, & on our way back, we got caught in a lightening storm... It wasn't even that bad of a one but she just started freaking out every time a lightening would go across the sky... She couldn't understand how I was calm through it & even enjoy it so much...

I like lightening. I like its raw power and it's a great nature thing. I recently got a video camera about 2 months ago and I started video recording lightening at night whenever we get a good lightenting storm. I got a video of the best strike from one night on my blog. You should check it out.
