My cat used be crazy and playful when he was younger... now he's a couple years old and he doesn't do much. Sure, he's soft and cuddly but he doesn't chase thins around, play at all, and isn't affected by catnip in the slightest.
Is there any way to get him more playful? I know each cat is different, but does anyone have any tricks for getting them into that mood?

well cats are more playful during night time coz they are nocturnal animals, so i suggest you try to play with him around that time. try crumpling a piece of paper and throw it his way and see his reaction. (cats are naturally attracted to the sound of paper so chances are he will chase them) but if that doesnt work, try using a string and slide it in front of him or over his body. or use a flashlight and try to rapidly move the light in front of him. my cat usually reacts to those methods eventhough he's now 3 yrs. old. i hope these suggestions will be "effective" to your cat. good luck! tell me if he responded or not. hehe.

Hmm... Well thanks for the advice. I'll be sure to try it out. I have actually noticed that he sleeps less in the night, so perhaps it will work. I'll keep you updated.

Each cat breed is stimulated by something different.
For instance, my two striped grey cats love to
jump in the air after things. And they chase
things around. So I have to get out some
string and let them chase it or else they run
all over each other, chasing each other around the house.
If your cat used to be playful but lounges around a lot,
she may have internal health issues that you need to discuss
with your vet.
Cats have very finiky systems and the slightest
little ailment can make them feel off their game.
Most cats settle down by the time they are five or six
years old and go into middle age.
Best of luck with your cat baby!
Be well.

Your cat should be seen by a vet. Lethargic behavior like you described can be symptomatic of an illness. Your cat is too young for that to be normal.
