Arent they already american idiots

theyre album american idiot kinda contradicts them selves. as you can see they say they dont want to be an american idiot. however, being a musician and making the music thye do and even looking like they do is whaty i would classify as an american idiot. any opinions?

What exactly is wrong with Green Day? There is nothing wrong with them. They have alot of great songs and there are some that I don't care for but to each their own. Just because they have an album called "American Idiot" doesn't make them American Idiots. There are probably lots of people out there that think the music you like to listen to makes the bands, singers etc idiots.

Look at the money that they have accumulated over the last 2 decades. They didn't get that way for being a horrible band. If they were that horrible they would never of even signed to a record company. No they don't take themselves seriously which is a good thing. If they were so self abosorbed on themselves yes it would making them a crappy band. There are so many bands out there that are so self absorbed on themselves it is sickening and they are the true idiots not Green Day.

Yeah I have to agree with nicholejade.
But maybe its meant to be ironic. I really don't think that they take themselves that seriously, and its a good thing. Its not something that you need to ponder about, at least I doubt that was their aim. Its a joke. Regardless of it, they make great music, and are a great band (whether British or American lol).

I want to take this oppurtunity to let you know that Green Day are British.
So they are in no way American Idiots. I think they're making fun of America in that song. I could be wrong though.

By the way they are not British. Billie Joe and Mike started a band called Sweet Children in 1987 and forming the now known band Green Day in the early 1990. In 1992 - 1993 they did however go on tour to play a stretch of shows in Europe. Billie Joe and Mike formed Sweet Children October 17th, 1987 at Rod's Hickory Pit in Vallejo California.
Billie Joe - born in Rodeo, California
Mike Dimit - born in Berkley, California
Tre Cool - born in Frankfurt, Germany (with Green Day from 1990 - present)
Former member was John Kiffmeyer - 1987 - 1990
