Accidents while making cookies (helloooo ER!)

Saturday morn I decided I wanted chocolate chip cookies. Cue Betty Crocker and a bowl and I'm on my way. One problem though. It calls for one stick of margerine (sp?) that is softened and the only ones I find are in the freezer. I soften a stick three times in the microwave (by then there was a pool of it in the bottom of the container) and figure it is soft enough.
After I put it in the bowl of mix, I realize the middle is still rock hard so I take what I can out and decide to just cut another stick and then soften it so I'll have the right amount.
Don't try to cut frozen butter. Especially with a steak knife. I ended up in the hospital after nearly cutting the tip of my thumb off (part is still attached which is where the "nearly" comes in). After three hours of waiting, I ended up in the suture room but because I went through my nail, they cannot stitch it and just flap over the skin+tissue and wrap it up.
Anyone else have horrible cookie-making accidents like this?

I guess the bloody margarine was soft by the time you got home! (Pun intended)Did you finish making the cookies?
I am sorry for your accident. I hope you are feeling better now. Keep a good eye on it for infection and be extra careful from now on, young lady!

Wow, sorry to hear this happened to you.
I have never had accidents like this happen, I always try to be careful in the kitchen. There were a few times where I was chopping vegetables and the knife would literally chop off my nail if I ain't careful, but don't worry I have long nails! I guess they just get a trim.
I never cut frozen butter with a steak knife and now after reading this, never will! But I have this super sharp bread knife that I love to use to slice through my rock hard butter. It works like a charm and it never even crossed my mind that I could get hurt or cut while cutting through butter...

not recently. You poor thing. i bet it will hurt more later.
I once buraned my hand on the oven when I was taking turnovers out of the oven. Does that count? It did not require any trips to the ER fortunately.

I always cut frozen butter with a steak knife. I have never had a problem with it in the past. However when I was younger my granny always said that we could lick the beaters after she made the cookie dough up. Well she never told me that I should unplug the mixer first before taking the beaters off. So here I went licking my marry old way and my finger knocked the button to turn it on. Needless to say I always unplug it now and never lick it when it is plugged in. My tongue did hurt for a few days after that. I broke some vessels in the tongue. Soft foods for me for awhile after that one.

I almost ripped my fingers off scraping a mixing bowl with a wooden spoon while the mixer was running. I looked away for just a second and suddenly...WAPP...WAPP...bits of wooden spoon were in the dough and my fingers were pretty sore.
By the way, never use a knife to get really hard ice cream out of the container. I think I got five stitches that time.
