When I hear Mindanao what first comes to my mind is a very troubled place. There is bombings here and there and many armed conflicts compared to other islands such as Visayas and Luzon. I also see Mindanao as a prosperous place in terms of natural resources. i guess that is why this is such a chaotic place to be in. But there are places I think that is peaceful like Davao City, Cagayan De Oro City and Zamboanga City where they are thriving despite the conflicts in their places.

Our city, Davao, is really peaceful. And i believe CDO and Zamboanga City and other cities also. But unfortunately whenever there's a clash on the other side of Mindanao, the whole island gets the impression of a war zone.

Yes I believe in you but that is how people perceive the place looks like. It is unfortunate but unless the peace and order is resolved there the impression will remain like that.

Uneducated People. This is the most common misconception we get as citizens of Mindanao. Really hurts.

Just as with armandojapitana, you tend to generalize Mindanao on what you just heard about a place in Mindanao or a situation. You are very much welcome to visit the place to actually see what a great place it is to live here. We all have our opinions though and we respect yours. ;)

I am from Mindanao. And I have to say the place I lived is peaceful. It really hurts, when people who have not yet set foot on Mindanao have those little misconceptions simply because what they basically hear and see on the news is the familiar tag line "War on Mindanao" thing. They have these misconception that we are uneducated, where in fact I have a cousin who studied in UP who was part of the top 5 of the board exam all over the Philippines and she is in Mindanao. I have friends who tried their luck in finding a job in Luzon and are currently holding a big position. Anyways it is a sad reality... I just have to sigh on this one.
