Jeepney Rides

I am a true blue jeepney rider and enjoying it actually. I hate riding in FX because of the cramped feeling I get. But there are some not so nice incidents which I've experienced while riding my favorite jeepneys. One time, there was this inconsiderate college girl (in uniform) who just felt like a hair model, letting her hair loose on my Face! What I did was to tap the back of her head (binatukan ko nga!) lightly. Then I told her to put her hair up because its bothering me. There was also another time when a teenage boy spit out of the window while the jeep was in motion, so as expected, I caught part of it on my arm. I was so furious I really berated the boy. Is there no book of ethics made for the Jeepney riding public? What other experience did you encounter while riding a Jeepney?

I always take a jeepney ride going out of our district whenever I go to work. It's cheap and I save a lot from it instead of taking a tricycle or a cab. Way back in college, we used to ride in colorful jeepneys whose drivers drive like drag racers on Aurora Blvd heading Sta. Mesa and vice versa. We loved it back in college. Jeepneys whose sound of their songs that are so loud it would crash your eardrums real good. Hehe.. I had our share of not so good experiences though. Once, a thief slashed my bag, pickpocket you know.. And someone pulled my gold necklace. I was kindov a newbie in the city so I wasn't really aware of such. Since then, I learned to be more cautious wherever I go. But I would say, a jeepney ride is a filipino sig we should be proud of. :)

Hello Honey! Im really proud of our jeepneys, but not so proud of the drivers. Most jeepney drivers, I think, have this wrong idea that they own the roads. You can see that if ever there is a traffic jam somewhere, where there's no real reason to have one, its caused by the immobile jeepneys waiting for passengers. But Im fond of riding the jeepneys, even my nephews and nieces from the states love them. You're right, thieves are everywhere, nothing we can do about that except always be watchful of our surroundings and not to wear or bring anything of value when going out. Just bring enough money. But we should never wear fake jewelry that looks real enough to fool these thieves, we might end up eating them. LOL

i also experienced those two situations you mentioned. and the most common experience of mine was to fell asleep during the ride. when i fall asleep and was awaken, i was already far from were i should be taking off. so i have to take another ride back to where i should be. meaning, i have to spend extra money for the fare of the extra ride. lol. but that was long ago, during the college days. now, i only ride my motorcycle, going to office and back home. no more missed destination, because there is no reason to take a nap. lol

That is really funny! What would be funnier is, if its the same jeep! hehehe... Yap, you cant nap on a motorcycle lol, actually, your gasoline consumption is cheaper compared to your jeepney fare. On the average, the motorcycle consumes about 40kms/liter, while a jeepney fare is 8pesos/4kms. If you do the math, for 40 kms of jeepney ride, you pay 80 pesos, while you only pay around 57 pesos for the same 80 kms, but you have to own a motorcycle. In your case, you pay 160 pesos because you have to pay for the ride back. LOL So I believe you were already dreaming of how to save for your future while taking a nap on those jeeps.

Your story is funny indeed as well as the others who have have posted. Well on my part my cellphone was almost taken by a snatcher. When I rode one day going to MRT station there was this guy who paid his fare since he was seating far from the driver. He asked me to pass his fare to the driver. What surprised me is that he keeps on going near me even though I already gave his fare to the driver I move farther from him to notice that his hands was already on my cellphone. I gave hi a stern look and he back out with his plan. I kept on looking at him until al of us went down the jeep. He just went down and walk very fast and as far away from him and the last time I saw him was that he blended with the crowd. I hope he would not victimized another one in the crowd. It was a perfect place to do his mideeds.

I admire you for that, you are fearless, I dont think I can do that, if someone would take away my cell, I'll give it to him freely, because most of the time these thugs dont operate alone, good thing he just backed away. I already had this experience with the 'salisi gang', one time I was minding the internet shop and I was all alone, when two guys entered the shop and asked for assistance with something, so naturally I went to him, and I didnt notice that the other guy was already getting the money from the box where the sales was kept. They got away with almost 4,000 without me knowing, but I was thankful that I didnt catch them in action because being alone that time, they could easily hurt me. Those thieves are really all around and it seems that we cannot do anything about them. Let us be alert at all times, be vigilant and hope that they all rot in hell!

that is funny did you really do that? binatukan mo talaga? i have experienced such things also i hate it when they just keep their hair on the loose without even thinking how much it hurts when you are hit on the face. I also have experienced the "laglag barya gang" but i was not the victim..i was able to notice that there is something fishy going on and they are also kept on pushing me at the far end of the jeepney then i took out my phone which was on my pocket and kept it inside my bag and i hugged my bag really tight..i was just thankful that they did not force to take my bag..i really felt shaky all over then

Yes I did! binatukan ko talaga, pero slight only. I was just so annoyed because I was trying to look for the landmark where I must stop and her hair is really hitting my eyes. I've heard of the 'laglag barya gang', never seen them in action, that must be very frightening for you, do they operate as a group? Are there instances where they hurt their victims? Good for me, I havent experienced anything to that effect yet (knock on wood)! They (victims of jeepney holdups) said that those thieves usually sit in strategic positions, so if ever you see a passenger who would insist on occupying the end of the jeep (near the door), get down quickly, he could be one of the holduppers. Better be safe than sorry!
