In several movies they have shown a character being able to fly to Europe or other places for free by taking a package with them and delivering it once they arrive at their destination. Is this for real and how would one go about doing this?

In the past it was easy for a traveler to travel for free as a courier. The traveler might have taken important documents from New York to London for example. The traveler would take hand luggage so be able to carry lots of important paperwork for the company.
I have watched a program called 'Banged Up Abroad' and it was about travelers that got put in jail overseas. They were smuggling stuff that was illegal. Carrying the packages got them prison sentences.
Courier flights are no longer possible. It would be very foolish to carry anything illegal through customs. In movies anything is possible but in real life it is wise to stay away from danger.

An Airline courier is a Legitimate Job-You're basically a Security guard for small, portable valuables or documents being flown to wherever..
