The whole superstition concept involves a belief in luck, good luck, bad luck. If you don't believe in luck, then all those superstitious sayings and ideas hold no meaning. My mom is very superstitious when come to gambling. She will only play the jackpot machine on certain days which she believes bring her luck and on top of that she will now and then look at her watch when playing. Every hour means something to her when she is playing the machine. Sometimes she wins but most of the time she losses more than what she won.

The number - I can't stand this number!!
I am on one thing and it's a big doozer too. It's the number 3. I dispise that number with such a passion that it's no laughing matter. I can take any other number as long as it does NOT end in 3. If it does then I really get the creeps, big time. You see, when I was three months old, mom slipped on some icy steps and dropped me and broke my leg. She didn't realize it till hours later. When I was three years old, mom said I was the best and sweetest baby till she cut my hair off, she cut all the niceness out of me for I turned mean. When I was thirteen, I was raped by three older boys, when I was married the first time, we separated in our third year of marriage and our divorce was final when I was 23 years old. I dated a guy in which we've moved a couple of times. The third place we rented, it burned to the ground killing him and three of our pets. Now that I'm remarried, our third pet was killed. Need I go on?

Yes I did read your comment and I did take it to heart. Don't say "Oh well" because I did take it to heart and I would do anything in this world to change that luck around with the number 3 so I will try what you've said and I pray that it works. I'm so sick and tired of the bad luck and it having to do with that darn number. Thanks hon!!

CatsandDogs_My daughter was a passenger in a car accident when she was fifteen. After that, she continued having accident after accident, none of them her fault. I suggested she release her thoughts of accidents and stop dwelling on them. After that, the car accidents stopped showing up in her life. If you keep telling yourself that the number 3 always brings misfortune, you reinforce the negativity. "You despise the number 3 with a passion" Your brain believes what you say and this pattern of "creepy" events surrounding the number three will continue all through your life. I'm not contradicting the misfortunes you have with the number 3, they are significant, as were my daughter's accidents. The number 3 is significant in my life and shows up in a positive way. If you are interested in this theory, but resistant to trying, you might start by saying "The number three used to bring bad luck into my life." Once you are comfortable with this statement, continue with a positive reinforcement. something like "but it doesn't happen anymore" or "I don't believe that anymore." I could go on and on, and you might never even read my comments! Sorry if this confused you or angered you. I am saddened by your extensive misfortunes and want to help you. Anyhow it's only my theory and might not mean anything to anyone except me. Oh well.

I am a little like when it is New Years Day about washing clothes. Due to my grandmother beliveing that someone in our family will die if we wash clothes on that day. I also have fears on a full moon that something bad will happen. I know these sound really strange.

well if you put it that way. i have to say i'm pretty superstitious. i certainly believe in luck, and not just gambling. there are just days when nothing goes my way. i'd be klutzy and mess up everything. i believe these are my 'down' days so i avoid making any decisions. there are days when everything i do makes it, even if i totally not pay attention. on these days i tend to decide on more important things. cheers.

Yes we do still hold on to some superstition like fixing dates of engagement or wedding. This kind of believe is passed down from my ancestors. We can't do away with tradition and I believe it is not superstition.

well i do believe in ghosts. some encounters i've had could not be otherwise explained. in certain chinese belief, a person born in the seventh lunar month tend to be more 'sensitive' to their presence. i've had the pleasure of feeling them on countless occasions. i've heard them, smelt them and felt them. though i have to say that thankfully i've never seen them. how else can one explain a sudden waft of jasmine smell that stays in a room with the doors and windows closed. most importantly, there are NO jasmine plants anywhere near the room!

I don't beleive in Superstitious. I view every aspect in scientific view. Although my parents are still superstitious,I find myself in a diffcult position in arguying them for showing ignorance in the laws of nature. I think no matter which part of the world you tour, you will find the natives nurturing certain beliefs and superstitions and my dwelling place is no exception in this case. Though our society is fast progressing, there are many people who are still superstitious and have a strong faith in the local beliefs. While some of them are quite hilarious, few others are really interesting, as many aspects of life are linked to them. Few beliefs even find their way into the religious texts and scriptures. One of the height of Superstitious is a Man marrying a female dog. http://www.gadling.com/2007/11/15/heights-of-superstitious-india-man-marries-dog/

Superstition has a limit. Marrying a dog is inhuman, he must have gone insane to commit such a stupidity.

I would have to say I am superstitious to an extent. I believe in luck, both good and bad. I don't think I have bad luck, just lack-o-luck. For example, my office has certain drawings with prizes normally on a monthly basis. I have never won anything from these drawings, and that is ok. But there are other people that have won 2 or 3 times within a year. We all had the same odds of winning. That is just strange to me.
