do you pack your lunch or you eat on a cafeteria in school or work?

I use to eat on a cafeteria or on a fastfood when i was still studying. I never bother to think about having myself starved to death, i can eat anytime i want, alone or with company.
Now that I'm already working i can't help but smile at the silliness of life. I pack my lunch everyday as i go to work (actually its my mother that pack my lunch). Our office has no owned cafeteria so i only have two choices...eat out or bring lunch...I now realized the importance of bringing my own lunch instead of buying on any cafeteria or resto. For one thing i save alot of money from it and when i bring my own lunch i am sure of its nutrients and cleanliness compare to the foods i bought in store.
I wonder how many of you pack your lunch and bring it at work so you won't need to dine out or buy foods outside. I understand that some of you has their own company cafeteria so I'm raising this question in general.

I should start packing my own lunch/dinner... I've been eating out pretty much everyday I worked... I didn't think much about it until my girl-friend suggested to put my lunch on my credit card for a month... It came out ot $450 one month... I didn't realize I was spending that much going out $10 here, $8 there...

Right now I'm at home with my children, but before I had them I always worked. I packed a lunch at least 9 days out of 10. I would allow myself to buy my lunch once every pay period. There was no cafeteria, but there was a Subway accross the street where I'd get a steak and cheese sub.

My husband and I used to eat out everyday. We calculated how much we spent on eating out and it was horrible. We were spending over 600 a month. We decided to start bringing our lunch. We are now saving that to buy a new house and in much better financial shape. We just did not realize how big of a deal it was. Not to mention our health is better. I am actually losing weight.

Hmm... I used to have my lunch (and preferably dinner ) outside because I think i am born a lazy bump:P And i think other than money, another thing that you mentioned is very accrute, having meals outside is less healthy than having your self-prepared food that can be really enriched in nutrients+ vegies+ fruits. And one thing that I am curious here, I am really surprised that saving money from lunch/dinner can earn you enough money to buy a house? 600/month-7000/year
for a house that can cost up to 500k, just doubting how many 7000 dollars are required for purpose:)

I seldom bring a packed lunch. I find it more convenient to just buy food in a fastfood or carinderia, to think that I am not residing to my real home. It's normal that when you are still schooling definitely bringing a packed lunch will not be your preference. However, if you are already the one earning for yourself that will be time that you will give importance to the allowances provided by our parents or guardians before.

I usually take a packed lunch with me but, if there's something particularly tasty on the menu in the work restaurant, I might buy it and eat my packed food when I get home. Unfortunately, they are going to stop cooking meals on site and have it all delivered in cook/chill trays from a couple of hundred miles away each day so the packed lunch looks set for a major comeback!

I used to take packed lunch from home to school and colleges while I was studying. Now I am working and have a lunch break of one hour I will go to home and have lunch and come back to work every day, since I am staying near to my office.

Oh If I have time to go home and it's not that far from home, I want to eat home foods. I don't like eating anywhere unless I'm with company. Or if not, I bring with me my pack lunch.

I always pack my lunch because I'm kinda choosy and delicate with the food I eat. I am also healthy conscious so I would not want my food be fried in an ordinary cooking oil. I also do not eat pork so I would not want my veggies to be with pork. I also do not want MSG and I refrain from sodium nitrates in my food so with all these demands, I better just pack my lunch. Ha!ha!ha!

I am really surprised that someone can consistently bring lunch ( or even, sometimes, dinner!) to work every single day. For me, a born lazy bump, I just can't imagine myself preparing my lunch every morning (or day before), making my lunch box nutritious and good-looking. I would rather spend more time (even few minutes) lying and rolling over my bed. After having seen the replies from everyone about the good thing of bringing my own lunch, I guess I should start learning how to prepare a good lunch box and bring to work.

Most of the time i eat in a fastfood or restaurant back in college as its easier for me and my mom to not wake up too early in the morning and prepare packed food. Many think that packing lunch saves money but in reality, its also the same expenses. The gas you consume and the ingredients of the dish are the major ones. The only difference is no one pays you to cook your own food. It is also somewhat a bit hassle-lish if you're a very busy person. Cafeteria food back then was really awful and i really had to go out of the campus to eat. I only get 5 hours of school everyday so what i did was skip lunchtime, finish my homework then have all the time to find a place to eat after school. As per standards of cleanliness, thats something we cant be so sure of all the time so i eat at places where their government issued hygiene certificates are displayed, or the usual fastfood and restos (because they have hygiene standards).

Back when i was still studying... i hated bringing my own food... aside for that i am just to lazy to pack my own lunch since my mother would still be sleeping when i am about to go to school... but nowadays... with the current economic crisis... i pack my lunch from time to time... especially when i have leftover food from last night's dinner... i cook only for myself and my baby... so there's always a leftover that i can bring to work for my lunch... saves me a lot of money and time...

I will useally buy my lunch for I work at a WalMart Supercenter. I will say after a week of buying lunch everyday it does get costly so I most likely will start bringing my own lunch from now on.

When I was studying, I don't bring pack lunch.. I always eat anywhere together with my friends... But now that I am already working, I am packing up lunch everyday because the foods in the cafeteria is very expensive and I need to save money since I am just renting an apartment and paying some bills.. I need to budget my money from time to time.. I am not like before when I was still a students that I can buy anything that I want because my parents are there to give my allowance.. But now, I don't have anymore an allowance and my parents also have a financial problem due to some personal reasons... I am shy to ask money from them since I am already earning... I can say that my life today is really hard than being just a students...

I remember the good old days when I used to eat out everyday. However, times are tough in my household now that the economy is terrible. So now I have to stretch leftovers for the week or try and buy food at the store where it would come out to one dollar a meal. Gas prices have really cut into my food budget.
