Yeah the ending is sad because she loses her husband, from an epidemic, after they actually fell in love.
I also loved when Kitty (sp?) did something productive with her time by volunteering at the orphanage.
I am a big fan of Edward Norton. I loved his other movies:
"American History X" (he was buff here and hot!)
"The Illusionist" (good twist to the movie!)
"Down in the Valley" (he plays a delusional cowboy in California and he gets romantically involved with a minor)
"Primal Fear" (he plays a criminal with split personality and he OWNS Richard Gere in this movie.)
Haven't seen "The Incredible Hulk" yet. I also wait till movies go out on dvd and rent them off of Netflix.

This movie caught me by surprise when I saw it was about a doctor and his unhappy wife somewhere in the middle nowhere. I stuck with it cuz I had rented and didn't want to waste my money. Boy, am I glad I did. To my surprise, it was WONDERFUL. I really like the song the nun and the children were singing towards the end. Very sad and touching. I will have to check YouTube to see if I can get that song.

HAH!!! Wouldn't you know it! It was there! If you want to see it here is the link:
It's called "A La Claire Fontaine" I tried to paste the Youtube link to it but can't. Just go to YouTube and do a search for either Painted Veil or A La Claire Fontaine.
