the ebay ads

why does my lots have so many ebay ads. i hate ebay. never was able to make money there. either it didnt sell and i was charged any way or else it costs more to sell than i make from it. yet top of every page is something for sell on ebay. how do you people make money on ebay? does any one know how much it is to get a store on there and how much it costs?
