This started off as a response to a different discussion, but that discussion kind of got me on an opinion fueled rampage and I hope people bother reading it, I would honestly like to know if people agree with me, don't agree with me, and why. The origional discussion was basically "why is weed a big deal."...
It wouldn't be a big deal if is was legal. But it is a big deal because a good bit of americans are outraged that it's illegal still, some of them are even non smokers. The fact is marijuana is not nearly as dangerous as alcohol, cigarettes, and many presciption drugs, like vicodin, percocet, and especially oxycontin. Not just that, but it has a medical purpose and helps people with severe and deadly diseases. I have been diagnosed with a severe anxiety disorder, I also suffer from depression. Along with that I deal with back pain every day from scoliosis and a car accident that permanently injured my neck. I smoke pot everyday. I am a proud stoner and think that the gov't and everyone else have no right to tell me I'm not aloud. I am an adult, and am fully capable of making my own choices. Noone has a right to tell me I can't do something that is less harmful to me than what is legal. I will never stop smoking marijuana. I will still be successful in my life, I will still make an amazing mother. I am still an amazing friend, sister, daughter, aunt, godmother, and soon to be wife, and step-mother. I am the kind of person that cares about everyone and everything. I am a great person, and I know I am, and marijuana is a part of who I am, and what I love about this world. I truly believe that in a perfect world the only things that would be against the law is murder, violence, war, theft, rape, molestation, abortion. As well as laws that say that every person shall have a warm place to live, a bed to sleep in, clothes on their back, food in their stomachs, medical care, comfort. That's all we really need. Punish the truly wicked ones, and take care of the whole world. The fact is, if we had a one gov't world, with these basic laws, we'd be a million times better off than we are now. Don't you agree? In the bible it says to give 10% to the church. What if that was a little mis-interpreted and it actually means give 10% to the world. Think about this, if EVERYONE gave just 10% of all their earnings, no more, no less, we could feed, house, cloth, and take care of the whole world. Why do we live in a world where we think it's alright that the richest 20% of the world has 80% of the worlds assets? I know that this isn't as detailed, and there would be a lot more to it to make this kind of world work. But, don't you think it's possible, and this is how it should be? Or close to how it should be? I don't want to hear comments where all it says is "It's not possible because the world wouldn't do it" or whatever. Because it is possible, anything, everything, is possible. If we can go from living in caves and not even having language or communication to where we are now, we can get there.
