Do Affiliate Programs really work for the Publisher?

Has anyone had any success with affiliate programs?
I feel like the only people that make money are the ones telling you how to make money using them!

yeah, most of the affiliate programs pay you when there is a sale. I know commission junction, linkshare etc which pays you commission only when there is a sale

I heard that someone earn $10K per month,
but that probably lies,
and they just want you to become their downline.
Becareful on this,
maybe someone will cheat you to join him,
paying fees, and run away with money.
