Putting rice in your daily meal makes you feel full even you have less meat. But as for the price of rice now, it become a big burden for us to eat rice as much as I want. Somehow, I think of some reasons why this calamity are active though our country(philippines)has lots of rice fields. Maybe, one of the reasons is corruption of the gov't officials. In my opinion, if the gov't would preserve the rice fields, this would be not a burden for everyone.

I think it's sabotage. Just when the Lozada case was heating up, this crisis suddenly appeared. It's to divert the people's attention from GMA's on-going filth. Which has proven successful sadly.

Most my family members do think too! It's a diversion. Honestly, there are lots of sacks of rice you can see in a warehouse here. I think they are just making this as an issue, so that it will bury the lozada issue.

Yeah right, corruption is the key to our hardships today. Corruption is rampant in government officials...instead of tending to the needs of the community...their self contentment is their top priority and where does it leave us? In the recycle bin or in the trash can? Poor Filipinos!

i think this problem is not only in our country e less but in other part of the globe also. I think its because of the less supply and high demand. but, government are doing its parts in order to lessen this burden.

Simple case of supply and demand my friend. Demand for rice is high, but the supply is not enough, thus its value goes up also. Blame it on overpopulation.

Corruption is already a given in the Philippine government scene, in fact, even outside of it. You are on right track about preserving the rice fields. Support to the local farmers and rice researchers should be given much attention. By doing so, the farmers and landowners will not think of farm land conversion to housing or industrial development sites will not be so much a tempting alternative.

Tons of problems in corruption, economic crisis, oil/gas hike and rice shortage continue expirience by the Filipinos today. We are not the only country who expririence this kind of problems even the others. One of the reason behind the shortage of rice is the lack of priorities given to the farmers of our government, secondly million hectares of land was made to become industrial buildings instead of planting crops and lastly the abnormal weather we are expiriencing. Whatelse we can do about this problem. Our neck has already held by the Government. Filipinos are know to be intelligent but they seems not using their intelligence in the right way. They really love they're own selves but they could not try to love they're own country men.
