I'm in the process of burning some audio cd's, and have decided to make one with ultimately cheesy music. You know the songs I'm talking about... they are songs that pretty much everyone knows, and a lot of us actually LIKE them, but overall, they are really cheesy.
What is your favourite cheesy song? Are there any others you could recommend I add to my cd?
Here are some examples of what I have so far:
"I will survive" - Gloria Gaynor
"Who let the dogs out" - Baha Men
"Canadian Idiot" - Weird Al
"It's not unusual" - Tom Jones
"I'm too sexy" - Right Said Fred

Oh wow, you asked for it! I found a great website (www.onehitwondercentral.com), where the songs are grouped into decades! Of course I went to the 80s first (incredibly cheesy songs!) and here's what I found (only songs I know made the cut):
The Vapors: Turning Japanese
Lipps, Inc: Funkytown
Devo: Whip It
Bow Wow Wow: I Want Candy
Toni Basil: Mickey
Waitresses: I Know What Boys Like (not truly a one-hit wonder, but maybe for the 80s!)
Wall of Voodoo: Mexican Radio
Thomas Dolby: She Blinded Me With Science
Kajagoogoo: Too Shy
Jump in the Saddle Band: Curly Shuffle
Dexy's Midnight Runners: Come on Eileen
Elmo & Patsy: Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer (my dad's personal favorite!)
Shannon: Let the Music Play
Nena: 99 Luftballoons
Jack Wagner: All I Need
Mary Jane Girls: In My House (I really think they were the precursor to the Pussycat Dolls)
Georgia Satellites: Keep Your Hands to Yourself
Timbuk 3: The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades
Patrick Swayze and Wendy Fraser: She's Like the Wind
Buster Poindexter: Hot, Hot, Hot
Midnight Oil: Beds are Burning
Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock: It Takes Two
Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians: What I Am
Any more I'm missing here? Now I've got to have my 80s music fix!

Wow, cheesey music...I gotta think for a second here, since there are so many songs to choose from! I'm also going to try to get the correct titles (I'm so anal about these things!), so here goes (and they're not all cheesy!):
Don't Stop Believin' - Journey
Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
You Are Always On My Mind - Pet Shop Boys
Pretty Woman - Roy Orbison (but I like Van Halen's version too!)
Jersey Girl - Bruce Springsteen (you'd have to be a Jersey Girl to appreciate it!)
American Pie - Don Maclean (admit it, you've sung it)
There's tons more...I just want to thank you for filling my head up with these songs! There's plenty more, but I've got a 100 or so discussions to respond to yet! I can't wait to see everyone else's responses.

Oh my gawd! I can just hear it in my head! I found a great site with 80s song titles...there were so many! Your choice is pushing everything else outta my head...and now I'm thinking of 867-5309 by Tommy Tutone (I think that's who did it!)--my best friend's name is Jenny and of course that was her ring tone for a while!
Time to exit and rip my eyes off (or listen to some good hard Metallica!)

Ya, I made one of those for my brother for his 50th birthday to remind him of all the stuff we used to listen and thought was cool. Tiptoe thru the tulips...tiny tim. The brady bunch theme song, I wanna hold your hand, beatles...sugar sugar..the archies......Chickaboom...daddy dewdrop, I don't eat animal, melanie. The list is endless. I'm henry the 8th...hermits hermits. Need more? We used to listen to and memorize the corniest songs and then would sing them....probably just to be annoying. I got you babe...sonny & cher.

Those are some good ones. :) Another fun one that most people know and loves is the Everly Brothers' "You've lost that loving feeling". I've added "Sugar Sugar" to the cd list.

How about The Safety Dance by Men at Work? It's Raining Men by the Weather Girls. Did anyone mention Addicted to Love by Robert Palmer? And although I consider nothing done by him to be cheesy, how about Wild World by my favorite, my Cat Stevens?
I'll see what else I can come up with....

I remember being in sixth grade, MTV is so new they're playing MUSIC VIDEOS! and that song being on the radio! I need the Weather Girls to come and sing about raining men here by me! But I digress...so here's another one..
I'm Fat by Weird Al Yankovick (not that I'm Bad by MJ isn't cheesy itself!).

The opening scene...comes in, talking ghetto and then you see him leaving...there's nothing like a big man on a little moped, is there? I was laughing so hard, I just couldn't even listen to the rest of the video!

Milli Vanilli had a few I liked. MC Hammer Can't Touch This was another. I am older so I guess pick just about anything top 40 from the eighties and there you have it. The eighties and maybe early nineties were the glory days of music!

The ones you mentioned are better than the only one I can think of. I always kind of liked the theme from "The Love Boat." I know, it's a little weird, but I don't think of a few of the ones you mentioned as cheesy. But, that's just my opinion. Good luck.

Well if she can submit The Love Boat theme, then I've got a few that I'd like to submit (and some are actually based from real songs!)
Friends theme (actual song)
M*A*S*H theme (actual song)
Miami Vice theme (I think this may have been an actual song)
Will those do you good?

I know what songs we should be looking for now..One Hit Wonders! I think Time Life came out with an entire series of them. OOOOhhhh, this'll be fun!

Yes I have an ultimate cheesy song and that is What A Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong. It reminds me of when I was young and first heard it and it always makes me feel good about life. I can relate to the words and I think it is a great celebration of life. My mother hated it because she could not stand Louis Armstrong's voice, but I always loved the sound of it. He sounds like someone who knows how to live and he sounds as if he really means the words he sings. Ohhhh yeaaahh....
