Do people in your country traditionally want to have a son?

In China, it does, since trationaly thinking is that son will support family when they grow up, but girls will get married with others and leave family. How about in your country? Do you want to have a son?

oh yes, you could say it is almost true in my country back in nepal. most of the elders prefer to have a son first, and not only for supporting the family but also continuing the line as well you could say. but now, it's a little different though there are still some who prefer to have sons first. for me, i was neutral though of course, my parents as well as my in laws were hoping that my first would be a son and it really was. they were happy and maybe relieved i guess. my second was a daughter so it's perfect for me now. everyone's happy back home in nepal. hehe

In the Philippines, it's close to what Starbright said. Most men want sons and most women want daughters but right, in the end, as long as it's healthy, no problem there. I have Chinese friends where their tradition holds true and it's actually sad. My friends are girls so they sort of always have to "fight" for their father's love. They face a lot of rejection and criticism from the father. I have a daughter right now and one day, we hope it will be a boy. That will literally complete our family. Some people here even try and try until there is a boy AND a girl in their brood.

In America, men want sons and women want daughters. In the end, we all want healthy children. Sons carry on the family name. Girls get married and change their name to their husband's. I think because of our ego, all of us want children that look like us. We love looking into our children's eyes which are reflections of ourselves.
