This is the first time I am using my D80 to take night shots.
I had my settings on Auto as I have yet to master any of the settings on the camera.
Looking at the shots that came up, I am plenty impressed at the results. This camera is good!
And I am loving it more and more each time I use it.
I hope to be able to take better shots in future.
Question to the gurus out there... for shots like fireworks, how do you determine the metering for the exposure when you can only point at the sky in preparation the fireworks display?
Is it based on experience?
What do you use to get a gauge of what settings to use for fireworks display?
As there is a limitation of only one picture per posting, I can only attach one picture for now.
Try to post more so that I can add more pictures with each comment I make. ![](/Content/images/emotes/lol.gif)

i love fireworks and pictures of them. it's really breath taking to see them. a D80 will definitely yield better results than a normal camera. looking forward to more pix from you. as for the technical aspect, i can't really say anything. i'm a noob when it comes to photography. :p

I went back to check last night and found that my Harddisk that crashed my computer, is THE same one that stored all my photos taken with my D80 when I first started.
SIGH... this is the only other photo I managed to salvage from that night. I do hope to find more.
Here you go... enjoy!

oh dear that is really sad. guess you got to start practicing the backup the backup. it sounds a little confusing i know. or you think i double typed. it's really about backing up the backup. we backup our computers. then we do another backing up of the back up. so at any time there is at least three digital copies lying around. it sounds a little crazy but it really works. no more heartache of losing all those memories. looking forward to more pictures in less than two months.

Nice one ahgong.....my friend has a D80 too and I just love that camera. I'm thinking about getting one myself but it's soooooo expensive.
Anyways, it's really hard to shoot fireworks because you have to snap at just the right time and a tripod will help a lot too unless you've got really steady hands! Of course a D80 makes things a lot easier too.

The D80 is getting cheaper now.
In fact, during the last trade show, the package bundle is so good! Much better than when I got my package!
And shooting fireworks not only do you have to snap at the right time. Being able to predict the right position to snap is important too!
I am so looking forward to shooting this year's fireworks. I do hope I can get a good spot this time.
Last year's crowd was so horrible!
