Yep, I do experience that a lot. This strange sensation and muscle twitch is known as “Hypnic jerk” If this has happened to you on more than one occasion, don’t worry, you are not alone. The general consensus among researchers is that, as your muscles begin to slack and go into a restful state just as you are falling asleep; your brain senses these relaxation signals and misinterprets them, thinking you are falling down. The brain then sends signals to the muscles in your arms and legs in an attempt to jerk you back upright. This misinterpretation that takes place in your brain may also be responsible for the “falling” dreams that accompany the falling sensation.

it's not always your feet. It can sometimes be your arm, or in my case, once, my whole body. It was quite scary, it lasted for about 15 seconds, just this spasm. I think (i may be wrong) that it is a way for the body to use up any last energy

Yes, I experienced that so many times. Its like your falling into some place. You felt that your falling in a higher place and then finally your going to kick and in to your surprise it's like a dream. This happened when I am very sleepy and when I am about to sleep, a deep sleep...finally I kicked. I can't explain this.Is anyone knows about this?

Exactly! This happened to me a few nights ago. I was just about to enter a deep sleep and my legs kicked. It was like some weird spasm, lol. It's kind of feels uncomfortable too. And sometimes I thrash about it my sleep, so that doesn't help either. I've punched and kicked the walls so many times you can actually see little indentations.
