My son will be 4 next month and has been potty trained completely for about 6 months. My husband and I are expecting our 2nd child in September. Last week, my son begin to regress back to the accidnets in his underwear. Is this normal for period or is it an attention thing? Please help.

This is common with toddlers when a new baby is expected or after the baby arrives. Young children feel a lot of emotions they don't understand and can't express during this time. The best thing that you can do is to give your son a lot of positive attention and make some of it centered around being a big brother and a big boy. When he has an accident remind him that he's a big boy and that he's expected to use the potty so going in his underwear is not something that makes you happy. You probably will see more signs of regression but they will go away in time as your son adjusts. Congrats on the baby!

my daughter did the same thing. it was like the excitement wore off. we didn't praise her as much so she didn't go in the potty as much. i just let her know that she was still expected to go in the potty and we started praising her more again. she's been doing much better again. so i would say it is a normal thing.
