Starting A Blog

I've been thinking about starting a blog, but not sure exactly how it works, and am hoping that anyone who has started one could give a few pointers. Like, which site is better, Blogger or WordPress, or others, and what's the differences in them? Also, how do you actually make money from a blog? I've been researching and trying to determine which ones are best, it seems some people make good money from their blogs and some don't, and also I think I've made it worse, by gathering too much information...lol, if there is such a thing!? I've actually started one on Blogger, but haven't written anything on it yet because I'm still trying to learn the rules, as far as links and everything goes. There are a lot of job postings for professional bloggers on a couple of the work at home boards that I'm a member of but they usually want people that have WordPress experience? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
