Have you ever dropped food by accident and then pick it back up to eat it?

Be honest, have you? I know that I have done it, and I am not proud of it.. Even if the floor is clean or where ever you dropped it at... Do you still pick the food up and put it back into your mouth? I know that I have seen little kids do this many times.. I teach my kids not to do this..

No, I haven't. I'm kinda a clean freaky person. My kids have done it though and I threatened not to kiss them if they did it again. But, hey, if the bread lands jelly side up, I guess its okay, wait.... It's not, ahhh! I gotta go wash my hands and gargle.

Of course I have, why waste good food? I do not understand peoples' obsession with germs. If you stay away from them than you won't have any immunity.

Honestly, last weekend when my husband cooked some BBQ and he cut a smaller pieces for me to taste if I already like the sauce, he suddenly dropped one piece and I told him, I will eat that..LOL! I never do that before and I do know, I just feel that the area is clean and it was not too long before he pick it up..LOL!

I rarely drop anything on the floor to tell you the truth but when I do I do pick it up and eat it. But wait it actually depends on what I dropped because if it's ice cream I'm not going to pick it up. By the time I pick it up it's probably liquid already. If the floor is like really dirty that you can see dirt tracks on the floor then I will not pick it up.

I have, my kids have, my hubby has. I taught my kids not to because they would pivk stuff up off the ground or off the school bus floor that had been trampled on and dirty and try to eat that. Little kids want to stick every dirty thing they can find in their mouths. It probably isn't the best thing to do but everyone I know has done it.

I've done it, and still do on occasion. I am not a germaphobe and neither are my kids. I believe a bit of dirt and germs are good for you. If I drop something that I really wanted to eat, I will pick it up, look for lint or hair, and if it LOOKS clean, I'll eat it. If there is lint or hair I'll throw it out.
Actually last night I made home made pasta, but didn't make quite enough. We each were able to have 1 serving. I served the pasta, then asked the kids to bring me their plates so I could put bread on them. Of course my 5 year old dropped his pasta, so I picked it up and put it back on his plate

really depends on what it is though.

I have picked food up from the floor many times and eaten it anyway. We have had this saying that there is a _____ second rule. Sometimes it is 5 or 10, which is the amount of time it can be on the floor until you CAN'T eat it! I'm not sure where that one came from. It seems everyone still eats it off the floor anyway.

Oh, most definitily. We had the "5 second rule" around here. Then my friend went through these classes to be licensed to provide childcare in her home. One night she came and told me this story: The teacher asked everyone that had eaten food off the floor or let their kids do it to raise their hands. Almsot the entire class had raised their hand. He then told them to imagine a friend had come over and used their bathroom. They stepped on the floor of the bathroom that the toilet had recently overflowed onto. They then walked into their kitchen transporting all those germs. Then, a piece of food was dropped onto the floor and rinsed off, or blown off, and eaten. I was so grossed out thinking about it like that!! Since that day i have never eaten anything off of the floor, it immediately gets thrown into the garbage.

Of course, it depends on where I drop it, but yes. I have been known to do this - but only with "dry" food. Wet food - no way.
One of our local tv stations tested the '5-second' rule (or whatever it's called) and found that there IS a difference in what gets "picked up" if recovered sooner than later.

Well of course you know that even if you didn't do it as an adult or teenager you were a child once. I would venture to say every child as eaten something they dropped on accident.

I think it depends on what I drop and where I drop it. I would only do it at my house not that it is better than anyone else's. It is certainly gross that we do it at all, but does it really hurt or do we don't do this because it is not socially acceptable.

Exactly i agree with you, sometimes food may fall on table or shelf in the kitchen, where we cook food, then i don't hesitate to pick the food and eat!
But what if it falls on the floor or carpet or some dirty place lol! nobody eats in dirty place, just in case am telling , i never eat. We either put to cat or dog or just throw away!
Happy Posting!

I won't lie and say that I've never done it.
Cause I have, at least once.
Most times, if my Tylenol falls on the floor,
I can't afford to throw it away so I simply
rinse it off and take it anyway.
It's not food, but it does make my
migraine go away.

hey cream97 Obviously this process is a natural process in the case of child. I have seen so many child irrespective of their social castigation to take dropped food . I think I had also taken while I was so little but I could recall the incidence. But to be honest some time in my residence I take the dropped food not liquid but solid like biscuit etc. I know that it is a bad habit but it happened.

Dear friend,
I had not got much chance to eat the dropped foods, still I do never intentionally dropped any food. I would eat those foods dropped to my own plates. But if any tasty food slips from my hand or mouth that would really sad but I would avoid taking it back unless I feel it is so unhygienic or unhealthy to consume. Also I do not like to waste foods.

of course, the 3 second rule right?
I only do it if it is drops on my dining table or kitchen counter.
If on the floor I don't bother.
I don't let my kids see it too, because my daugther will not know the difference if it is at home or outside so to avoid confusion. I don't do it in front of her.

I drop my food very rarely. I used to drop my food very much in my childhood. Ever since my childhood I well practiced to eat cleanly and clearly and hence I'm now dropping my food in very rare occasions. Even if I drop my food, I never eat it again unless I catch it before touching the floor.
