To me it felt just like menstrual cramps at first. Then, eventually, I started timing them until I realized it was not just cramps. Once they were like 15-30min. apart I called my doctor and went to the hospital. Hope this helps My 2nd one was a cinch of course

LOL.. I thought my second one would be a cinch like yours was... I was wrong.. All the books and everyone told me that it is easier with subsequent pregnancies... They lied to me. I went from less than 2 hours of labor to 23 hours with my second one. But I never had alot of intense pain, just tightening of the muscles so I guess I had it easy either way.

Every woman's labor process is different. For that matter, every pregnancy and labor is different. Two scenarios for you: With my first Child a week before I had him, I went in for a regular scheduled check up at the doctor, and he informed me that I was actually having contractions. The muscles were tightening up in my stomach, but I was feeling no discomfort from it at all. The doctor also told me that he would be moving my due date to a week past originally thought. Initially my due date was set for April 3. It was bumped to April 10. Well, at 4:15 in the morning on April 3rd, my water broke, at 4:35 I began having contractions and my child was born at 6:09am April 3rd. Those contractions were basically just feeling alot of pressure and it was like I couldn't keep the muscles from tightening. Second pregnancy was quite different. He was due December 27th. On December 11th, I began feeling pressure at about 4:45pm. Not cramps, just severe tightening of the stomach and back muscles. This was happening about every 30 minutes. I phoned the doctor and told him I was having contractions at 30 minutes apart. I phoned my husband who was working second shift and told him not to panic, that I was having contractions at 30 min apaprt and the doctor said that he would be calling me every hour to check the progress. Things stayed this way until about 11:30 pm. Then they started getting more frequent. Not really any pain, just alot of pressure. My husband got home from work, I fixed him his dinner and the doctor called to check on me and I told him the contractions were about 15 min apart. He said to meet him at the hospital. We did. I was not fully dialated and my water still hadn't broken. The 15 min apart continued like this throughout the night and I finally told the doctor that I thought we should break my water and I bet that things would move along faster. He broke my water at 1:45 pm the afternoon of December 12th. Immediately my contractions started coming faster and faster. I never really felt any severe pain with contractions. It was more like just alot of pressure and tightening of the muscles. This child was born at 3:47 pm on April 12th. The jist of it..... For me, it wasn't the contractions that caused pain. The majority of the pain is when the child is starting to be born and your pelvic bones and girly areas have to stretch to facillitate the exit of that child from your body. That is where the pain starts. The labor pain you want to know about will be different for every woman and every pregnancy. It could start as sharp period like cramps or just muscle tightening like what I had. Believe me, you will know when it's time!! Good luck!!
