Should we have a lot of close friends?

Some of my friends told that we should make many new friends but we don't should have many close friends. They told they only have 1-2 intimate friend and they're happy with their friends. Do you think so?

As long as you can handle having many close friends,then I think there is no problem with that.But having more close friends sometimes lead you to a complex relationships,since jealousy may form between you and your close friends.

I don't think it's the quantity of close friends that is important, rather it's the quality. I'd rather have a few god friends, than have a lot of friends that don't mean that much to me.
