What relative are you closest to?

Not talking about closest as in which relative lives closest to you, but which relative do you have the best connection with. For me it would be my mom, no doubt. But others have been reared by grandparents, or perhaps they were without siblings and became closest to a cousin. So which relative of yours do you feel closest to? (And of course step relatives count.)

My mom, but since she passed away, I am closest to 2 of my sisters.. My mom was 90 and I am 60, so all of the older aunts and uncles are gone now.. I did have one aunt and one half-sister that I would go and spend every weekend with when I was growing up.. I am sure my mom was glad that I did, it gave her a break.. I also had a fantastic step grandmother, none of the real grandparents were still living when I was younger.. But now, I have 2 sisters that I am closest to..

I'm a momma's girl. It breaks my heart that mom can't be the support she used to be and now I have to be more of the support for her.

I can't imagine the day I'm stronger in body and spirit than my mother. I know your mother must appreciate it. I hate seeing loved ones age.

At 27 I would've never would've believed this day has come, but here it is. She's 82, I'm 54 and the strokes have taken a toll on her.

Strokes are unforgiving. My mom is so close to her dad, and now she is watching him fade as the strokes he had have now left him with dementia which is getting consistently worse.

My sister - My sister last Christmas
I'm closest to my little sister as we have a lot in common. We look alike only that she has darker complexion. And it's only the two of us who understand what each one of us is going through.

My family is very close nit. I'm unable to name just one. I'm very close to all 3 of my kids. My mom and I are very close. Closer now than when I lived at home. As for my brothers, I would have to say I'm closest to my youngest brother. So, I guess you could say I have 5 people I'm the closest to. (Just couldn't choose 1 over the other)

Right now I am very much close with my grandmother. We have a lot in common. Wehn I'm upset with my parents or any of my family, I often run to her and tell her how I feel. She also do the same thing to me.

Definately my mom. My dad and I dont get along all the time, but that is getting better and Ive realized how much closer I am with him than I thought. My mom and I are really close though, we've been through alot and had to deal with so much together. I hope that one day my daughters are that close to me, without the hard times to bring us together.

Now that my father has passed away I would have to claim my mother as my closest relative to my heart (with the exception of my spouse?)

Good point. If your spouse is your best friend I'd say you have a pretty good marriage.

For me it's my mom too. We did have a couple of years that we had no contact (my fault), but when I was pregnant with my first one, I got in contact with her and it was like we never had any problems. Guess I needed to grow up a bit ;-)

I would have to say my Dad which some people might find strange since my father wasn't always there for me during my childhood. I lived with my mother for most of my childhood. They got divorced back when I was like 5 or so. I went to live with him for a short period of time when I was 14 or 15, but that was a short period of time. My visitations with him prior to this were never consistent or frequent. I think it always irked my mother that I seemed to be more respectful of him and seemed to appreciate him more when he wasn't there. My mother and I on the other hand have had our issues and have never really been that close. Then again, her whole side of the family isn't really known for warm fuzzies. It's not that they don't care about each other, they just don't show it the way others do. My dad's side of the family on the other hand, is the complete opposite. I don't know how else to explain it really.

And may I add that we hardly do talk.. But I consider them to be close, even though they may get on my nerves every now and then.

I would ahve to say my mom is my closest reletive to me . She is there for me when I need her . And never turns me away. She is one of my best friends and I would not know what to do if I didn't have her in my life.

Well I am close to my mom, and first cousin, but way closer to my little seven year old sister then anyone. I have had her staying with me the last several days and we have been having so much fun even taking pictures together her favorite thing to do besides watch cartoons and crafts. She wants to be a model when she grows up. Since she is only seven and me thirty-three it is like she is my own and I try to treat her as such. My mom adopted her from birth from my brothers girlfriend who said she wasn't ready for a kid emotionally, physically and financially. So it is a double pleasure of having my niece/sister to do things with.

My closest relationship is my adult daughter. Not just because I moved in with her and her kids a few years ago and she's ended up having to take care of me after my surgery but in emotional closeness. I do my best to respect that she's an adult and makes her own decisions and that her life really is none of my business, cuz her business is her business and my business is my business.

I am closest with my younger sister-almost by default because I am estranged from much of the rest of my family-but we have always been close.

My dad. We just have a lot in common and I respect him so much. We disagree on things, but I always respect his opinion and his life experience.

I'm not really sure which of my relatives I'm closest to. My Mom seems to be sometimes, and my only brother at other times. It often depends upon the subject that is under discussion or what we are doing. My Dad and I used to be close, and when I had kids he seemed to think that I can't do anything right, so it has put a distance between us once more that we had for a while when I was a teenager, and had boyfriends.
