Do you color your hair out of vanity?

I never thought I would be at this point in my life but here I am. I just turned 35 and everyday I look in the mirror and see more and more of my hair going grey. It is driving my nuts LOL. I honestly thought I would handle it better but the more I see the more panicked that I get. I honestly don't think I'm ready for this but I know it is going to happen sooner or later. I figured when I was younger that when I started to go grey I would just let it happen cause I'm a really laid back person and don't care for doing a lot with my hair, get my hair trimmed maybe twice a year. I have only colored my hair once and it was a disaster but here I am thinking about doing it again. How do you deal with this? Is it as big of an issue as I'm making it out to be? I never knew it would be such as issue just embracing this part of my life.

My hair started graying during my mid-fourties, I turned 50 a few days ago. I'm not really sure how I would have reacted if it had started turning when I was in my 30s. I will tell you this, don't dye it darker. I had a friend who was indian and she had started to grey early. One day she came to work and the grey was all gone and there wasn't any sign of a dye job. When I asked her what she did, she said many woman make the mistake of trying to cover gray with dark dyes. All you have to do is go lighter. It won't affect your natural color and it'll cause those nasty little greys to just blend right in. My grey has come in around the hairline. I'm not one to want to have to maintain anything. I saw now where they have these kits that you apply the dye with a thing that has a little comb on it. I might give it a try one day. I think you can apply it where ever you need it.

I actually started getting greys when I was in my late teens but only a few, easy to pluck. One of my best friends has a head full of grey when we graduated and now she is completely grey, but well covered. I have always had a few different colors in my hair or red, blond and different shades of brown from my Irish/French/Scottish/Whatever else genetic background so I'm used to that but now it is like my hair is just getting duller and greyer by the day, like all the other colors just quit playing and went away. At first I thought maybe I was reverting back to a blond from the sun, but then I realized it wasn't blond and started freaking out.
