British and Americans both speak English, but they use different terms for many things. Here are some common word differences that I know.
American / British
sidewalk / pavement
eraser / rubber
bathing suit/ swimming costume
candy / sweet
note / bill
vacation / holiday
mail / post

18-wheeler truck or semi=lorry
Cookies=biscuits
Résumé=Curriculum Vitae or CV
(Potato) chips=crisps
There are some words which are used in Britain and America, but the pronunciation is slightly differently. For instance, schedule is pronounced "shed-ule" in Britain and "sked-ule" in America.
