well kids can probably start reading as soon as they can read a bit because it is a very good habit and it is better to inculcate this habit as soon as possible..

Hi Hailsferrer!
I know of a little girl(we'll call her MK) who has been reading for at least 5 years and she is only 8 years old. She was read to by her every day when she was a baby. When MK read the word 'zoo' by herself, she was rewarded with a trip to the zoo.
MK also started learning to read music at age 3. She plays piano very well and memorizes many pieces of music that she plays.
MK and her mom make weekly trips to the library and get up to 30 books for her to read. Granted, they are thin children's books, but they are books nonetheless. By the time they make the next trip to the library, MK will have read all of those books, many of them 2 or 3 times. I have even had the pleasure of her reading to ME!! MK loves to read to her pets and she has even read a few books out loud at a few programs at the library.
MK is just like her Grandfather in that she has to have a book with her wherever she goes. He has taken books to read while waiting for Grandmother at her piano lesson or while waiting at the mall. MK has taken a book with her on the trip to Wal Mart (it takes a half an hour to get anywhere where she lives)or she will have her nose in a book while waiting for a food order at the local pizza joint.
I do not believe that there is an age that is too young to learn to read. The earlier, the better!

I think it must be read to them early age, but the age at which begin reading is the age of seven so that they can understand what they read.

My son started reading to their daughter before she was even born. Every night he would lay down next to his wife's tummy and read one or two stories. Now the baby is 7 weeks old, and all it takes is the sound of her daddy's voice to make her calm and quiet. They've continues to read to her and it's amazing to see her settle down one his lap and look at the pictures in the book.
My older grandson is 6 1/2 years old and can already read for himself. His daddy too started reading to him before birth. I really do think it helps with their development.
So, my answer would be, start reading to them before they're even born!

I think that you should teach your kid to read as soon as they are able to verbally recognize things. If you have a dog, they can point to your dog, and say, "Dog," and even the name of your dog. They can identify several things, such as lamp, and door. When they have just hit this age, and after they know their ABCs, neatly print labels on a piece of the paper. Instead of just saying "Lamp," write "The lamp" on there, so they kind of know that 'the' needs to be used in many cases. Pronounce it with them, and make sure that they can connect the visual and verbal word with the object.

You should read to them from birth on;) They themselves can slowly take over. Here in the US kids learn how to read in Kindergarten, which is age 5 to 6. But I know they could learn it earlier. If you really would like to push it, you can start on word recognition by age 2. But I think 5 is early enough. They need to be able to concentrate for a longer time to get a success feeling by reading an entire book, even if it is only a little kids book with one sentence on each page;)
