I personally always check my own grammar and spelling and it bugs me when I made an error after I submit a comment. I just think it's a habit with my secretarial training because when others misspell and don't make sense I try not to be annoyed although I would never want to correct anyone. I think when we're blogging it's not at all important as long as they get their message across. Your right, who cares, I totally agree. What really annoyed me is when someone corrected me once on another website and started by saying "First of all, the correct spelling is........" That is really annoying. But I figure life is short, people are what they are, so what, me worry. LOL Anyway, just thought I'd let you know my opinion.
Take care.

yeah i have always had a prob in school where i spell everything the way i hear it and therefore there are a ton of mistakes lol.. the only time im annoyed with some ones post is when they only use symbols and numbers and half written words to where it takes me ten minutes to figure it out but oh well i figure that its their generation (almost always teenagers) and when i was a teen on the internet i wrote everything that way too lol.. like i said a response or two up there have been places i have joined to where they flat our harass people and most of them leave because they are told their are ignorant etc etc..

I am annoying in my head, but I have typos too. I don't normally correct people on the internet, but I do correct my children, even when it isn't being graded. I hate to see things written incorrectly, especially in books, which I've been known to edit with a pen. I don't understand how books make it all the way to print with tons of errors, especially text books. English as a second language is understandable, as there are a lot of words that may be hard to use correctly. How else can you learn unless you try? I don't think people are trying to be rude when they correct you. They are trying to help you improve so that you appear more intelligent. If your grammer, spelling, and punctuation is proper, you appear smart. It may not be a true reflection of intelligence, but what we can see in print is all we have to make judgements. Yes, I said it--judgement. It's all we have to judge a person, when we really don't know them.

some other places i have belong to they would truly harass the person till they left the group if they posted badly once.. i think anything printed book/text book wise should be correct but there is this place called publish america that got busted big time on how they tell the authors that they edit and correct everything and some one wrote a book and purposely made as many mistakes as they could and they printed EXACTLY as he has sent it in so it was all a scam.. i am glad i found out because i was looking into them when i first started learning about publishers vs agents since they dont charge anything and give you an advance on your selling.. prob is that they set up the price so high that the bookstores wont carry them.. i know a friend that had several done through them and didnt do well =(

I would not want to drive anyone away because they make mistakes. When it's rude, it's rude, but I think it matters where you judge them. We all make them.

I know the people you are talking about.
They come by your blog or MyLot post
and critisize and nit pick over tiny things.
They can't add anything of real value
to the discussion, so they nitpick until
they have ripped you to shreds.
Yes, I know them well!
I thought they were only picking on me.
I hate those bozos too!

to me we are here to socialize and learn from each other and how do you expect to make friends and keep them and people going to your post if you criticize everything other people post.. they are pretty much digging their own grave money wise.. but then again they may not realize how severe they can be sometimes

I do notice mistakes from time to time, especially when I don't proofread my posts. One time, I noticed one of my posts contained the incorrect phrase "really differently." Everyone makes mistakes, so I won't correct them unless it really matters (for example, the correct spelling of a Web site name. The Internet isn't as forgiving.)

I guess if you're writing for just yourself and allowing others to take a peek, then it shouldn't matter to you what others think. But, if you're writing so others will comment on your writings, I think you need to be prepared for those who will point out errors.
You're right that some who are here have a language other than English as their first language. Hopefully, one of the reasons they're posting here to to learn, and as long as one is not rude, they should welcome having someone point out their errors.
If you are writing for the public and not just for yourself, you need to consider what irritates others. For many, it's irritating to try to figure out what someone is saying when their writings have no punctuation or capital letters or when spelling is way off and grammar stinks. :-)
Personally, I often read a few words and go on if I have to spend too much time figuring out what the writer intended to say.

I used to be one of those people, and it used to bug me SO MUCH when I came across spelling or grammatical errors. Over the years though I've calmed down about it a lot, and realised that it's really not that big a deal, and there are far bigger things to worry about in life lol. Why stress yourself out by getting upset by something as minor as spelling mistakes?
It does still bother me, however, when I come across errors in newspapers, books etc. I think that people who's profession it is should at least have a basic knowledge of grammar.

anything published in any way should be gone through with a fine toothed comb in my opinion.. i said a few responses up about publish america claimed it checked and corrected everything and then got busted when they didnt so their books have a lot of errors in them..

I do notice the mistakes but I rarely correct them. I know that other people don't like being corrected so I just don't say anything. And plus most of the time when you are typing online most people make mistakes in spelling and don't even notice if themselves. And yeah most people don't know english too much, that's why I don't correct people because if they don't know much english then at least they are trying.

i dont think it would matter to me how bad the person was at english if its his second language since anyone that can learn a second one i totally admire!! yeah everyone wants to talk to everyone quickly so its easy to make mistakes even when you are awesome at everything..

my pet peeve took and often the ones doing all the complaining
and nit picking are also verylax in their own spelling and
grammar. I do not want to spend my time grading other peoples
work as I am not a teacher just a fellow mylotter and I make
my share of typos too. I think these people need to find something better to do with their time than worrying about my
typos. lol.

I notice them but they do not annoy me. The important thing is that I understand what the person is writing about, not how they write it. If I see errors or incorrect use of English in a personal email, a blog or a post in a discussion, I don't think anything of it. I do get annoyed when I see it in published articles and on websites.
If someone is writing for the internet and publishing their work online I think they should always use a spellcheck and to proofread their own work before they submit it. I spend more time checking and editing my articles than I do writing them. I always spellcheck as this will highlight any typing errors as well as incorrect spelling.
If the article is on a writing site where other people vote or rate, I will be put off by any errors I see. If I am visiting a website for information I will be less interested if the information is badly written and I will look elsewhere for a more reliable source.

yeah anything that is suppose to be published or shown for like purposes of an article should def try to do their best and everything.. one problem with spell check is if you spell something that can be another word so its incorrect in the sense you want to use it but its not misspelled as something else lol i found this out when editing my book

I notice spelling errors very easily, and usually grammatical ones as well. While it bugs me, I try not to correct anyone. I have made these errors, too, and usually don't notice until it is too late to correct it.

i hate that (too late to correct) there has been a few things that i have had like a question for a site or something that they post in a forum type thing to stay posted till some one from the company answers and so i try to take the time to fully explain everything and spell everything correctly and then after its posted i notice a mistake and i just want to scream..

i am very particular about grammar and the agreement of the verb with the subject. people may just write and leave it for your imagination whether it is a singular or a plural.well i am not particular about the capital letters. but yes, punctuations should be proper. it simply disgusts me. the topic becomes all the more boring to read.

singular and plural does get on my nerves if i have no idea what exactly is the point of whatever it is that some one is saying
