I felt very bad for him. That was so unexpected (for me anyway). He was like a triple lol. Thats messed up how harry's father used to pick him.

Of course! All throughout his life only a few people knew what he really was doing. If everyone thought I was evil (but it's really the opposite) and I couldn't inform them of the truth, I'd be miserable.
Yes, I believed there was something about Lily in Snape's hate for James. But throughout the course of the books, I wasn't really sure, until the end, if Snape was good or not.

I kinda felt that Snape really liked Lily. He's such a confused guy. I actually cried when I read that part in the last book. It's so heartbreaking.

My daughter and I debated Snape's character since the fifth book, The Order of the Phoenix. Of course, it was always a hope that Snape was a tragic character that was inherently good and protective of Harry, but J.K. Rowling led her readers down so many paths, it was difficult to know, truly know, if Snape was going to be this tragic character or if he was the snake Rowling tried to paint him to be. Upon reading the last book, I, too, cried when Snape was indeed the tragic character, but also the most in-depth of all the characters in the series. Even Harry and Draco didn't have the depth of Snape. I have to admit, Harry's constant teenage sulking got to be a bit over the top for a while, and Dumbledore's "double life" didn't compare to Snape's characterization. When my daughter and I both finished the last book, she called me and said, "I told you so! I told you so!" I laughed and told her she was right. Harry Potter will probably go down in literary history as one of the best classical series that should be required reading. Witchcraft and Wizardry nothwithstanding, this is a classic tale of good vs. evil personified. I am so happy I was able to get on the bandwagon of these books when they were published.
